The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport (HSET) Committee in eThekwini Cllr Themba Mvubu, today conducted an oversight visit at a Pedestrian bridge that is currently under construction at Ward 91 in Hammarsdale.
The project which started in October last year is funded by National Treasury and is estimated to cost about R16 million .

The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport (HSET) Committee in eThekwini Cllr Themba Mvubu, alongside the eThekwini Roads and Transport Department, Water & Sanitation Department and the North Central Taxi association, conducted an oversight visit at KwaMashu Hostel Wards 39 & 46 to check on the current challenges faced by residents.
The oversight revealed challenges such as damaged roads, no taxi shelters and lack of public toilets.

The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport (HSET) Committee in eThekwini Cllr Themba Mvubu, handed over a house to 83-year-old Gogo Mkhize who was relocated to a community hall following the April 2022 floods.
After the matter was brought to the attention of Cllr Mvubu in March last year, eThekwini Municipality committed to building a house for her .
This act reaffirms the EFF’s unwavering commitment to uplifting black communities and restoring the dignity of our people.

The President and Commander-in-Chief, Julius Malema, will attend the pre-sentencing hearing regarding the politically motivated allegation of the discharge of a firearm at the EFF 5th Anniversary Celebration.
The hearing will take place at the East London Magistrates’ Court on 23 January 2026.

The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport in eThekwini Cllr Themba Mvubu, alongside Hlokomela RTI and eThekwini Transport Authority conducted scholar transport inspections across various areas of eThekwini in order to ensure that scholar transport drivers are compliant and are driving roadworthy vehicles.
This is part of the Campaign which aims to ensure the safety of our pupils. This is an ongoing programme aimed at reducing road fatalities as a result of negligence and reckless driving.

The MMC for Human Settlement, Engineering and Transport Authority in eThekwini, Cllr Themba Mvubu, conducted an oversight visit at eMaphephetheni area to check on the status of Phase 3 of the eMaphephetheni Rural Housing Project .
Upon completion,this phase of the project is expected to yield 1 132 housing units. Since the project commenced in February this year, a total of 51 housing units have already been completed.
During today's oversight visit, a new lease on life was also created for some families of eMaphephetheni area, after Cllr Mvubu handed over seven housing units to deserving beneficiaries .

The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport Authority in eThekwini Themba Mvubu, today attended the official opening of the Hunslet River Bridge which is situated at wards 46 & 48 in Phoenix.
The smart bridge is equipped with smart monitoring sensors which do not only reduce future maintenance costs, but also enhance resilience against climate change and extreme weather conditions .

The MMC for Human Settlement, Engineering and Transport Authority in eThekwini Cllr. Themba Mvubu, giving his perspective on the LAND question at the signing ceremony of a 50-year-lease agreement to redevelop Southern Sun eLangeni & Maharani Hotels.
Cllr Mvubu said this marks a shared commitment of utilising public land for the public good. The EFF's approach to land expropriation without compensation, is that all land should be transferred to the custodianship of the state for equal redistribution to all.

♦️MMC on Duty♦️
The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport Authority in eThekwini ClIr. Themba Mvubu, today handed over more than 45 houses to residents of Thornwood whose houses were demolished after it was discovered that they had defects.
The rebuilding of these houses is part of the rectification housing project which aims to rectify defective houses in eThekwini.
The EFF led Human Settlements Committee in eThekwini continues to build free quality houses with access to clean water and electricity for deserving residents.

The MMC for Human Settlements, Engineering and Transport Authority in eThekwini ClIr. Themba Mvubu, today led the demolition and relocation program of senior citizens who were handed decent houses after spending many years living in a nearby informal settlement. He further gifted them with food parcels.The project is estimated to yield over 350 houses, and over 136 houses have been completed thus far.
