𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗖𝗔𝗡!
Fight for the freedom of our children.

A child victim of Human Trafficking is also a victim of extreme child abuse.

You may think that there is nothing you can do as an individual to prevent this from happening to a child within your community - but here are suggestions of what YOU CAN DO:

🩵You CAN start taking action by learning more about the signs and red flags of human trafficking and child abuse.

🩵You CAN start conversations in your family and social groups, raising awareness by sharing what you've learned.

🩵You may never know who needs to hear what you've learned...by talking about crimes against our children you help to break the silence often surrounding these topics.

🩵You CAN be instrumental in creating a safe environment for someone to reach out for help.

Remember:

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and a multi-billion-Rand criminal industry that denies freedom to many children around the world.

Protecting children from violence, exploitation and sexual abuse is not only a basic human value but also an obligation clearly set out in Section 28 of the South African Constitution.

For more information follow or to report Human Trafficking call the South African National Human Trafficking Hotline on 0800 222 777 or call 10111.

𝗕𝗘 𝗔𝗡 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗘!

Traffickers and perpetrators of crimes against children often groom their victims.

⚠️Remember!

A child of any age, race, gender, or social status may become a victim of Human Trafficking.

Traffickers are master manipulators who have honed the art of fitting in, faking friendships, and getting potential victims to trust and accept them, before showing their true colours.

Children are particularly vulnerable to grooming tactics, especially when perpetrated online through the use of their favourite social media platforms.

⚠️ signs that a child may be a victim of online grooming:
• Has unexplained gifts, like a cellphone that arrives by courier or is delivered.
• Doesn’t want to talk about where the gift came from.
• Is getting lots of messages from someone they only know online.
• Talks a lot about a particular adult or child that you don’t know in person.
• Spends more time alone, becomes alienated from friends and family.
• Gets phone calls at strange hours and moves away to take the call.
• Is in a relationship with a much older boyfriend or girlfriend, either online or in person.
• Doesn’t want to talk about what they’ve been doing, or lies about it.

📌These are warning signs not definite indicators.

💬 Seek counseling, strive to have open and honest conversations as a family, and ensure that children have a safety network of trusted adults whom they can talk to about anything at any time.

🚨 Important resource for professionals working with children and young people.

AI-generated child sexual abuse material is an emerging threat. In 2025, we saw a rapid increase in the number of AI-generated child sexual abuse reports.

📚 Together with National Crime Agency CEOP Education we’ve created a guide to support professionals in understanding and responding to this threat, with practical advice on how to act when it’s encountered.

If you work with children or young people in any capacity – or support those who do – please share this resource with your colleagues and networks.

New Beginning Retirement Home

It was a privilege to spend time discussing digital hygiene and safety strategies with the residents at New Beginnings.

Given the brazeness with which fraudsters are targeting older persons and those deemed more vulnerable because they may be considered less tech savvy, these sessions are critical.

We appreciate the opportunity created by the Amanzimtoti SAPS Spiritual Network and thank the team for going beyond the physical scope to consider the spiritual wellness of residents, reinforcing our commitment as a Network to support our pensioners.

As always, we value the input from our colleagues from the Amanzimtoti SAPS Social Crime Prevention team, Gender-Based Violence Desk and Department of Community Safety and Liaison who highlighted reporting procedures, as well as assistance and resources available through the various organizations working in partnership with Amanzimtoti Police Station.

Thank you also to the Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum for prioritizing the safety of our senior citizens and to BB Bakeries for making an impact in the lives of our residents. We also thank Under the Juniper Tree and other Network members for their sponsorship of refreshments.
