CITY IMPLEMENTS WATER RESTRICTIONS TO SUPPORT RESERVOIR RECOVERY
The eThekwini Municipality will implement water restrictions from 9am today, 24 October 2026, until this afternoon.
The restrictions will affect the supply systems from Durban Heights Water Treatment Works to the Northern and Southern Aqueducts, as well as the Pinetown system.
These bulk pipelines supply water to the northern and southern areas, as well as parts of Pinetown.
The intervention aims to support the recovery of reservoir storage levels supplied by Durban Heights Water Treatment Works.
The restrictions are necessary to rebuild reservoir storage capacity, which is critical to maintaining the required hydraulic grade and ensuring that water reaches areas at the end of the distribution network.
High water demand has depleted reservoir levels, particularly affecting parts of Pinetown South, Nagina, Folweni, Demat, KwaSanti, Inteke, Luganda and Washington Heights.
The Municipality acknowledges the impact of these interruptions on affected communities and is implementing these measures to support reservoir recovery and improve the reliability of water supply, particularly in areas experiencing ongoing outages.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly and practise responsible water-use habits during this period to ease pressure on the distribution network and allow reservoirs to recover.
