eThekwini Municipality There are no official population statistics for the years 2008 and 2009.

eThekwini Municipality is the local government body responsible for governing and managing Durban and serves an area of 2300 square kilometers. The eThekwini Metro Area (EMA) is an amalgamation of racial and cultural diversity, with African, Indian and European influences creating a vibrant cosmopolitan society. According to the last official statistics, the Statistics South Africa Community Survey 2007, the EMA currently has an estimated population of just over 3.46 million.

Residents of Pinetown are smiling once again as the Road and Infrastructure Management Directorate has successfully completed the rehabilitation of Malone Road.
The upgraded road is already making a positive difference for motorists who use the route daily. Community members have welcomed the improvements, praising the smoother driving surface and enhanced road conditions.
This project forms part of the Municipality's ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving road infrastructure, ensuring safer and more reliable transport networks for all road users.

Courageous Manelisi Khumalo, 17, received a brand new wheelchair, shopping voucher and a gift of hope from Chairperson of the Community Services Committee, Councillor Zama Sokhabase. Manelisi, selflessly requested the Municipality to assist his mother by building her a new house.

Learners from Siphosethu Primary School recently visited the Mariannhill Landfill Site to learn about responsible waste management, recycling, and the dangers of illegal dumping.
During the educational tour, learners gained valuable insight into how waste is managed, sorted, and responsibly disposed of. The visit encouraged learners to become ambassadors for cleaner and greener communities by promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal.

A successful Biodiversity Day event was held at Falcon Park Primary School, promoting environmental awareness and sustainability among learners.

The event highlighted the importance of biodiversity conservation and environmental education.

Falcon Park Primary School has also made history as the first school in Chatsworth to register for the Eco-Schools Programme, inspired by the Back-to-School Programme held earlier this year.
Together, we are empowering young environmental champions and building a cleaner, greener future for all.
