FOUNDATION AND HISTORY
In 1956 the first Afrikaans school on the Bluff named Island view was established. In 1957 the school was renamed and called Hoërskool Dirkie Uys with pupils from Class 1 to Standard 6. In January 1959 it became a high school only with Mr. P.R.T. Nel as Principal.
In 1962 occupation was taken of the school buildings and at the end of that year the first group of pupils matriculated.
During the following years the school achieved excellent results and performed very well academically as well as on the sport field and culturally..
At the beginning of 1997 we became a parallel medium school and the first English speaking pupils were admitted. The school name changed on 1 April 1997 to Durban Academy.
Durban Academy now serves all pupils of the Bluff and surrounding areas.
P.R.T. Nel as hoof.
