The Eastern Cape Provincial Operation Festive Season Safer Season 2026/2027 was officially launched today, 23 October 2026, at Rotary Stadium in Ngangelizwe, O.R. Tambo District. The launch also marked Provincial Safety Month, bringing together the South African Police Service (SAPS), government leadership and community safety stakeholders to strengthen efforts to combat crime and promote safer communities.

The event was attended by the Executive Mayor of O.R. Tambo District Municipality, Cllr Mesuli Ngqondwana, and was led by the National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, alongside provincial SAPS leadership. Highlights included a ceremonial police parade, the handover of 17 vehicles to SAPS stations in the district, and the presentation of certificates to community safety volunteers in recognition of their contribution to promoting safety.

The operation aims to prevent crime, strengthen law enforcement, increase police visibility, improve road safety and protect lives and property throughout the festive season. Community members are urged to remain vigilant, report criminal activities to the police, work with law enforcement agencies and play their part in protecting children and vulnerable people. Together, we can build safer communities and ensure a peaceful festive season across the Eastern Cape.
