Greater Giyani Municipality Closes Chapter on 2021/2026 Term with Historic Final Council Meeting.

Greater Giyani Local Municipality marked the end of an era today, 23 October 2026, as it hosted its final full council meeting for the 2021/2026 political term. The historic sitting took place at the municipality’s state of the art New Council Chamber, bringing together public representatives, and administrative officials to wrap up a five year tenure dedicated to local governance and service delivery.

Presided over by Council Speaker Cllr Ernest Mboweni and spearheaded by the Acting Mayor, Cllr Thamsanqa "Thami" Mabunda , the meeting served as a reflective session on the administration's achievements, ongoing developments, and the transition toward the upcoming 2026 local government elections.

The council also received reports from portfolio heads, since taking office in November 2021, the council under Mayor Thandi Zitha's leadership has navigated a complex landscape of community needs across the municipality’s 31 wards.

During the 2021/2026 term, the municipality prioritised strengthening relations with local traditional authorities, hosting collaborative events such as the ward committee conference, and managing critical infrastructure projects and roads upgrades in many villages and township areas.
