I love high tides at the Cape Recife Lighthouse, as a photographer the wet sand acts like a mirror reflecting the lighthouse creating interesting images and as a bird-watcher it makes things easier as the birds are forced to a narrower area of beach and are easier to spot and identify.

There are several bird species in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve that have a very basic nest and just lay their eggs on the ground like this Blacksmith Plover. The chicks are precocious and leave the nest soon after hatching and it might seem as though a little chick on it's own might be abandoned, they are still fed and looked after by their parents. Please do not disturb them or pick them up. They are also a reason why dogs are not allowed in the reserve.

Thankfully car tracks are something you seldom see near the Cape Recife Lighthouse. Vehicles are not allowed on the beaches in South Africa and these came from an emergency services vehicle.
