EMPOWERING YOUTH THROUGH AGRICULTURE AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
In celebration of World Food Day, the Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Ms Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko accompanied by the Speaker of Council Cllr Phindi Mpemvu, the MMC for Corporate Services Cllr Mapule Motsepe and MMC for LEDP Cllr Themba Motsepe today officiated the graduation ceremony of the beneficiaries who successfully completed their Agricultural and Entrepreneurship Skills Training Programme at the Mabutho Hlatshwayo Treatment Centre.
The programme was implemented by the Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with the Action Development Agency (ADA). The skills development programme equipped young people from care centres, treatment centres and surrounding communities with accredited training in Plant Production, New Venture Creation and Tractor Driving.
The entourage thereafter officially unveiled a borehole donated by ADA to support sustainable agricultural production and toured the centre's thriving vegetable garden.
The initiative demonstrates government's commitment to tackling youth unemployment, poverty and food insecurity through practical skills development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
