2 pedestrians struck on N3 two nights in a row, leaving one dead and one critical.

Midlands EMS crews have been dispatched to two separate pedestrian accidents within 200m of each other on the N3 between Merrivale and Howick, between last night and tonight.

Last night, Midlands EMS crews responded to a pedestrian who had been struck on the N3. On arrival, it was established that the pedestrian had sustained fatal injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the patient was declared deceased on scene.

Tonight, Midlands EMS crews were once again dispatched to a second pedestrian accident in the same area, only approximately 200m from last night’s incident. On arrival, it was established that another pedestrian had been struck and had sustained critical injuries.

Paramedics immediately assessed and treated the patient on scene before stabilizing them for transport. The patient was then transported to hospital for further medical care.

The two incidents occurring within such close proximity over two consecutive nights highlight the dangers pedestrians face when walking along or attempting to cross the N3, particularly at night.

Motorists are urged to remain extremely vigilant when travelling along the N3 between Merrivale and Howick, especially during the hours of darkness, and to be alert for pedestrians and other hazards on the roadway.

Authorities were in attendance.
