URGENT SAFETY ALERT TO PARENTS, GUARDIANS AND THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY
21 September 2026
Jane Furse Comprehensive School is issuing an urgent cautionary alert to all parents, guardians, learners, staff and members of the school community following a concerning incident reported at Roots Jane Furse Plaza.
An adult male, who does not appear to be known as a parent or guardian of the school, was reportedly observed in possession of a photograph of one of our learners. The individual was allegedly asking learners to identify and point out the learner appearing in the photograph.
The intentions of the individual remain unclear, and the school is therefore refraining from speculation. However, the nature of the incident has prompted the school to take the matter seriously as a learner-safety concern.
The school Principal, PF Ntake, responded swiftly after receiving the alert from Roots Jane Furse and has called on the entire school community to remain vigilant.
Parents and guardians are urged to:
* Remind learners not to engage with or provide information to unknown individuals.
* Immediately report any suspicious behaviour to a teacher, school management, parent/guardian or the relevant authorities.
* Encourage learners to remain in groups and avoid sharing personal information or photographs with strangers.
The school is engaging with relevant stakeholders regarding the matter and will continue to prioritise the safety, security and wellbeing of all learners.
The school further appeals to members of the community to remain calm, vigilant and responsible and to avoid spreading unverified information.
