🌧️ WALK CANCELLED – SUNSET - MOONRISE WALK 🌿

Unfortunately, due to the wet and muddy conditions in the Kabeljous Reserve, along with rain predicted for Monday, 26 October 2026, we have made the decision to cancel the Sunset - Moonrise Walk.

The safety and enjoyment of all our walkers are important to us, and we feel these conditions would not be ideal for the walk.

Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you on our next adventure in nature! 🌅🌕🥾

Keep an eye out for updates on future walks.

We'll be back in action tomorrow, Wednesday 15 July, as the reserve has finally dried out enough for us to continue working.

If you have an hour to spare and would like to make a real difference, we'd love to have you join us, 08:30 at the parking lot. After the storms, loads of litter has washed into the lagoon and high up against the dunes.Every bag of litter collected helps protect our beautiful reserve and the wildlife that calls it home.

Together, we can restore what the storms left behind. 🌿💙

A horse's-eye view of Kabeljous Reserve after the rain! 🌧️🐎

The volunteers are chomping at the bit to get back to work, but with water still standing on the paths, the reserve needs a little more time to dry out.

For now, we wait ... and enjoy the beauty that the rain has brought.

Thanks Theo and Sandy. Enjoy you morning rides.

After the rain, the Kabeljous Reserve is looking refreshed and alive. 💧🌿

The water flowing through the reserve is a reminder of the vital role these natural wetlands play in supporting biodiversity, filtering water, and sustaining the ecosystems we all value.

Moments like these highlight why protecting and restoring the reserve matters. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Kabeljous Reserve Action Group and our efforts to conserve this special place for future generations.

Golden threads and bright yellow feathers — the Cape Weaver is one of the most familiar and fascinating birds in the Kabeljous Reserve. 🐦💛

These energetic little birds are master nest-builders, weaving intricate hanging nests from grass and reeds, often over water to help protect their young from predators. Males build several nests during breeding season in an effort to impress potential mates — the avian equivalent of showing off your DIY skills!

The Cape Weaver feeds mainly on seeds, insects, and nectar, and its cheerful activity adds colour and movement to our wetlands and surrounding vegetation.

Moments like these are a reminder of why protecting the Kabeljous Reserve matters — every species plays a role in this unique ecosystem.

We would like to thank each and every person that attended the moonwalk last night. It was a huge success, and only because of each one of you! We appreciate the support with our boerie rolls, and the generous donations. This is what keep us going!

The weather was perfect for a gorgeous sunset, and thereafter a similar moonrise.

Lastly, thanks to each and every volunteer for the hard work and dedication. It does not go unseen!
