Umkhanyakude Health District operates under the KZN Department of Health.

It delivers healthcare services through a network of (5) district hospitals and(60) clinics, strategically distributed across all(4) local municipalities within the district.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane, is on the ground in uMkhanyakude District for this month’s Cabinet OSS/DDM programme.

As the Zululand MEC Champion, she; alongside HOD Champion Dr Nkosenye Zulu and senior management; is leading direct community engagement in KwaNibela (Ward 4).

Today’s focus: receiving a War Room progress report from local councillor Sibusiso Simelane, followed by an oversight visit to the Malabela Housing Project.

The last Cabinet OSS engagement in the district was in 2023. Today’s report-back session at KwaMnqobokazi Sports Field (with the Premier and EXCO) will track delivery progress and next steps.

Oversight on Infrastructure Development at Mosvold Hospital.

On 23 April 2026, Umkhanyakude Health District Acting District Director Mr B.P. Fakude and Mosvold CEO Dr B. Mungómba visited the construction site of 40 units of staff accommodation and a 22-bedded paediatric unit at Mosvold Hospital. They were accompanied on-site by Engineer Mr B. Funeka, who guided them through the progress of the development.

Hospital Boards Training for Region 4: King Cetshwayo, Umkhanyakude and Zululand Health Districts

On 15 April 2026, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health conducted a training session for Hospital Board Members from King Cetshwayo, Umkhanyakude, and Zululand Health Districts (Region 4) at Ngwelezane New Hall.

The session highlighted the critical role of Hospital Board Members in strengthening health governance, enhancing stakeholder engagement, and promoting active community involvement.

Board Members expressed a strong commitment to deepening their understanding of their roles to better advocate for patients and communities in hospitals.

Together, we are building a stronger healthcare system and advancing the vision of a long and healthy life for all in KwaZulu-Natal.
