CHANCELLOR’S FOOTBALL DAY: DEVELOPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF FOOTBALL TALENT

The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in partnership with Sol Plaatje University, hosted the Chancellor’s Football Day on 7 October 2026, featuring renowned football coach Mr. Pitso Mosimane.

The interactive football development day brought together football coaches and assistant coaches from across the province for an engaging coaching workshop and practical coaching clinics. The initiative provided an opportunity for coaches to share knowledge, strengthen their coaching skills and gain valuable insights into developing young football talent.

A key highlight of the day was the launch of Mr. Mosimane’s much-anticipated book, The Youth Football Coaching Manual: A Complete Guide to Developing Young Players.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mosimane described the book as his way of giving back to football and the community. Reflecting on his journey, he shared how football has taken him to places he never imagined and allowed him to meet extraordinary people he once thought he would never encounter.

Through his coaching manual, Mr. Mosimane hopes to inspire and equip the next generation of players and coaches, contributing to the development of South African football and helping young talent reach greater heights.

The Chancellor’s Football Day underscores the importance of knowledge sharing, mentorship and grassroots development in building a stronger sporting future for the Northern Cape and South Africa.
Develop the coach. Nurture the player. Build the future.

DIAMONDS AND DORINGS KIMBERLEY BIG HOLE MARATHON AIMS TO
WELCOME 5 000 RUNNERS

07 October 2026

Kimberley is preparing to host the second Diamonds and Dorings Kimberley Big
Hole Marathon on 24 and 25 October 2026. The organising committee aims to
attract 5 000 runners across four distances.

Under the theme “Local is Lekker”, this year’s event will create opportunities for
Northern Cape businesses. Fort Joko and House of Rude designed the race
merchandise, Kathu based Limakashu is supplying the socks, and KIDJI designed
and printed the medals. The committee is also prioritising local suppliers for
branding, infrastructure and other event needs.

The marathon is expected to bring runners and supporters to Kimberley, creating
opportunities for accommodation providers, restaurants, retailers and other
businesses. It forms part of the broader Diamonds and Dorings programme, which
uses sport and culture to promote tourism, social cohesion and local economic
activity.

Affordable entry fees are intended to make the event accessible to both recreational
and competitive runners. Entry costs R100 for the 5 km, R150 for the 10 km, R220
for the 21.1 km and R350 for the 42.2 km. Every registered participant will receive a
race T shirt.

The 5 km, 10 km and 21.1 km races will take place on Saturday, 24 October. The
42.2 km marathon will follow on Sunday, 25 October. It is a qualifier for the
Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon and will be broadcasted on
SABC Sport.

A total prize purse of R1.2 million will be on offer. Building on the inaugural event in
2025, the committee hopes to grow participation, encourage more people to join the
road running community and establish the marathon as a lasting feature of the
Northern Cape sporting calendar.
We are furthermore calling on companies and businesses to partner with us by
purchasing a waterpoint along the iconic route of the Diamond & Dorings Kimberley
Big Hole Marathon, taking place on 24 and 25 October 2026.

Waterpoints provide essential support to runners throughout the race while giving
companies an opportunity to showcase their brand, engage directly with participants
and spectators, and contribute to the success of this premier sporting event.

Companies interested in purchasing a waterpoint or obtaining further information are
encouraged to contact: Ms Pulane Pharasi @ 071 687 5051
