Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve is situated in a malaria-free region in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, about 20km from Ladysmith only 3.5 hours drive from Johannesburg and 2.5 hours from Durban. With its waterfalls, diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, this reserve offers endless opportunities and options. Now after many years of productive management, the reserve has come full circle. The fauna and flora are flourishing and has settled down into the slow-moving time of Africa. Most of the endemic species have returned giving a particularly diverse range of species not found in most protected areas in South Africa. The reserve certainly has plenty of water – so vital to the flourishing wildlife and maintaining this ecosystem at such a high level. The Nambiti Private Game Reserve is home to the “Big Five” game, namely lion, elephant, white rhino and buffalo and about thirty other game species, including cheetah, hyena and hippo. The cheetah and lion wear tracking collars. The birdlife is fairly prolific with several rare bird species found in the ravine bush alongside the two 40 metre waterfalls of the Sundays River, which flows through the reserve. The Nambiti Private Game Reserve boasts a selection of superb lodges that are masters in the field of hospitality - perfecting what has become known as the luxury photographic wildlife safari experience. Comfortable accommodations, fine cuisine, breathtaking landscapes, skilled and personable guides and a rich diversity of wildlife and flora are the aspects that a visitor may expect to enjoy.

Safari days, poolside afternoons.

After an early morning game drive, there’s nothing quite like returning to Cheetah Ridge Lodge , taking a dip and simply slowing down.

Surrounded by the beauty of Nambiti Private Game Reserve, the pool is the perfect place to cool off, relax and enjoy the peaceful side of safari.

Because sometimes the best part of the day is doing absolutely nothing.

World Wildlife Day | Protecting what makes Nambiti wild

There is something incredibly special about watching a wild animal move freely through this landscape — knowing that you are witnessing something that cannot simply be replaced.

At Nambiti, conservation is more than a word. It is the early mornings, the long days, the monitoring, research, protection and hands-on work that happens behind the scenes.

It is protecting our rhino.
It is safeguarding our elephants.
It is monitoring our lions, cheetahs and leopards.
It is working to preserve the delicate balance of an entire ecosystem.

And sometimes, it is the difficult decisions and hard work that nobody sees.

Because we are not simply protecting individual animals. We are protecting a living, breathing piece of wild Africa — and the future of it.

Today, on World Wildlife Day, we celebrate every creature that calls Nambiti home, and every person who dedicates their time, passion and resources to ensuring that they continue to have a place here.

The privilege of seeing wildlife in the wild comes with a responsibility — to protect it, respect it and leave it wild.

This September, Umzolozolo Private Safari Lodge South Africa turns 20 🥂

And what a month it has been. A month of celebration, new memories and moments worth remembering - from an unforgettable rhino dehorning and the arrival of new life in the reserve, to beautiful renovations that have given the luxury suites an even more special touch, including their stunning outdoor showers.

There have been evenings of live music, celebrations with close friends, countless travellers passing through, and plenty of reasons to raise a glass to 20 incredible years.

Looking back at the “Then & Now”, it’s incredible to see just how far Umzolozolo has come - while staying true to what makes it so special: the people, the wilderness and the memories created here.

Here’s to 20 years, and to many more memories still to come. 🥂🌿

Come celebrate this milestone with Umzolozolo and create a few memories of your own.

Not every special sighting comes with a roar. 🐾

Out on a recent game drive, came across one of Nambiti’s spotted hyenas — a reminder that there is always more happening in the bush than first meets the eye.

Hyenas are often given an unfair reputation, but they are incredibly intelligent, social and highly adaptable animals, with an important role to play in the ecosystem.

Watching one move quietly through the bush is a chance to appreciate a side of Africa that is often overlooked.

Because a safari isn't only about the famous faces.

Sometimes, it’s the unexpected encounters that stay with you. 🌿
