Ridgeway College is proud to present the Leader Council 2027, selected through a rigorous and transparent process designed to uphold the standards of our school community.

Candidates first underwent an evaluation of academic stability and behavioural compliance. Those who met the criteria submitted written applications for public view, after which students and staff cast their votes.
Ballots were tallied by Executive Head, Dr Elliot, and formally ratified by the Ridgeway College staff.

Sixteen students have now been entrusted with the responsibility of leadership, picking up the baton from the Grade 12 cohort who have begun their Final Examinations.

The new council has already stepped into service, assisting in maintaining order and supporting the smooth running of the school day.

Ridgeway College remains deeply proud of all its students and grateful to our parents and community for the privilege of educating such outstanding individuals.

We congratulate the Leader Council 2027 and thank them in advance for the commitment they will bring to their roles.

After another rigorous term of sustained effort, sharpened discipline, and unapologetic hard work, we are proud to present the Ridgeway College Term 3 Top 10 students in Grades 8, 9, 10, and 11.

These are the learners who set the academic pace of the school —the stalwarts who hold their ground, the determined climbers who have advanced, and the new additions who have fought their way onto the list.

Each name represents hours of revision, pages of notes, late‑night practice, and the kind of consistency that builds futures.

In a world increasingly distracted, these students prove that focus still wins, discipline still matters, and excellence is still earned.

Their achievement is not accidental.

It is deliberate.

Their success is not luck.

It is work.

Their presence on this list is not symbolic.

It is deserved.

Ridgeway College congratulates every student who appears in the Term 3 Top 10 — you stand as examples of what academic commitment looks like, and you raise the bar for the entire school.

A proud moment.

A powerful list.

A standard worth keeping.

Spring has sprung, along with a renewed energy and appreciation for sun and fun...and water guns and buckets and sneak attacks...

Yes, we're a little late for an official Spring Day but in our defense, we were completing tasks and tests and syllabi, then the matriculants were writing their Preliminary Examinations while the G11s were enduring rounds of interviews to determine who was qualified to run for Leader Council 2027 and who, unfortunately, was not.

Then they were compiling profiles to gain the students' votes...
..and only now, with the end of a grueling term in sight, did we allow ourselves to let loose a little steam, or WATER, to be exact...

Because an excellent education makes room for children to be children, even if only for a few hours.

It’s happening.

That moment when our students take the language they’ve mastered and turn it into power — shaping arguments, challenging what they believe is wrong, and carving out visions for the future.

All the speeches that carry their voices, their carefully chosen words, the deliberate pauses, the stories told through language and expression. You see how they turn those words into power.

It’s happening.

All the cultural dances that carry our histories, the intricate patterns, the deliberate movements, the stories told through rhythm and breath.

It’s happening.

Praise poetry rising — bold, rooted, unapologetic — honouring our ancestors while giving voice to a new generation finding its place.

It’s happening.

A choir whose heavenly voices crown African melodies passed down through time, lifting the hall with harmonies that feel both familiar and newly born.

18 September 2026 — Ridgeway College, Shandukani Hall.

A celebration of language, culture, movement, and sound. A moment our students have been preparing for — and a moment we’re ready to witness.

Ridgeway College stood up — and stood out — in a contest against our peers, earning top placements in Debating, Chess, Basketball, and Tennis.

We are a small school, 230 students strong, and yet, in classic underdog fashion, we take on significantly larger, better‑resourced schools… and win.

We believe in ourselves!

We produce Matric results in the top 1% of South Africa.

We produce Provincial and National Champions.

Para‑Olympic Bronze Medalists come from HERE.

However, success does not begin at Provincials, Nationals, or the Olympics — it begins in school.

And this week, it began with:

1. DEBATING

First Place — Best Junior Speaker: Lungile Maimele
First Place — Best Junior Team: Ridgeway College

2. CHESS
Junior Division: 2nd Place
Senior Division: 2nd Place

3. BASKETBALL MVP: R. Phadziri

Winners: Ridgeway College

4. TENNIS (Boys)

First Place

Ridgeway College thanks its coaches — Miss Sihlali, Mr. Dibakwane, Mr. Sugar and Miss Ndhlovu — and gives special recognition to Grade 11 student‑coach Raamano Phadziri, for the time, skill, and commitment they invest in our students’ success.

Believe in Yourself -

We Do!

2020-2021 Tokyo Para‑Olympic bronze medalist and Ridgeway College alumnus Sheryl James returned to campus this week, marking another milestone in a life defined by discipline, resilience, and global impact.

Sheryl’s newly published book, 'Unbridling' co‑authored with Sandy James, draws on a horse‑riding term that refers to loosening the bridle — releasing control and working with the horse rather than exerting dominance.

Sandy explains that this philosophy mirrors Sheryl’s own journey: learning to work with her body, finding her natural rhythm, and leaning into it to achieve excellence on the world stage.

Her visit to the Shandukani Hall was both inspirational and generous. Sheryl spoke to our students about perseverance, self‑knowledge, and the courage to trust one’s own process.

She also donated two copies of her novel to the Ridgeway College August Schippers Library, further enriching a space built on curiosity and growth.

Executive Head Dr. Elliot affirmed that Sheryl embodies Ridgeway College’s motto: Believe in Yourself — not as a slogan, but as a lived practice.

Ridgeway College is proud to be associated with Sheryl James, whose achievements continue to uplift our community and model the power of disciplined self‑belief.

Ridgeway College kicked off Term 3 with an outstanding sweep across all opening athletic engagements, securing victories in netball, soccer, and even chess.

Our students showed exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination — a powerful start to the term and a testament to their growing excellence.

Ridgeway extends heartfelt appreciation to Coach Melody, Coach Sugar, and Mr. Dibakwane. Their dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment continue to shape our athletes into confident, capable competitors.

The time and passion they invest in our students make achievements like these possible.

A winning start. A proud community. A promising term ahead.

Ridgeway College’s Top 10 students distinguish themselves through disciplined behaviour and sustained focus, producing consistently superlative academic results.

In a world increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence and a youth culture absorbed by social media and self‑image, the ability to read, comprehend, and calculate is becoming the defining marker of the new elite.

Learners who can revise with intention, practise to mastery, and maintain behavioural discipline are positioning themselves for a future in which excellence is not optional but the minimum requirement for meaningful success.

Our Grade 9s took part in Kids’ Conference Africa through a focused History–Natural Sciences integration that actually mattered, rather than the usual brochure-speak. Here’s the distilled version.

They investigated how scientific change and historical context shape one another, using real sources, real evidence, and real-world examples. The work required them to research, analyse, argue, and present — not decorate posters.

The integration aligned cleanly with CAPS:
- In History, learners practised evidence-based enquiry, cause‑and‑effect reasoning, and source interpretation.
- In Natural Sciences, they applied scientific investigation skills, observation, and data analysis to understand how science drives societal change.

At the conference, they showcased how scientific ideas have influenced historical turning points — and how historical pressures have shaped scientific breakthroughs. Their presentations demonstrated critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and the ability to connect concepts across disciplines without being spoon-fed.

In short: our Grade 9s didn’t just attend Kids’ Conference Africa; they contributed meaningfully by showing how integrated learning produces sharper thinkers and more informed citizens.

Ridgeway College thanks Mr Dhlamini and Mr. Dibakwane for their superlative initiative, and, the opportunity they have created for our aspiring scientists.
