The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in the North West Province condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the brutal and senseless killing of women and girls in our communities.
The continued violence against women and girls is a serious violation of human rights and an assault on the dignity, safety and freedom of women. Every woman and girl has the right to live free from violence, fear and intimidation.
The ANCWL North West extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends and communities who have lost their loved ones to gender-based violence and femicide. We stand with affected families in their call for justice, accountability and meaningful action.
We call upon all stakeholders to play their part in ending GBVF. Government, law-enforcement agencies, the justice system, traditional and religious leaders, civil society, schools, communities, businesses, labour formations, men and boys, and political organisations must work together to prevent violence, protect women and girls, support survivors and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable. This whole-of-society approach is consistent with South Africa’s national response to GBVF.
The ANCWL further calls on communities to reject the normalisation of violence and to speak out when women and girls are at risk. Silence cannot be allowed to protect perpetrators. We urge law-enforcement agencies and the justice system to investigate cases thoroughly and ensure that victims and their families receive justice.
The ANCWL North West remains committed to the struggle for the liberation, safety and dignity of all women and girls. We will continue to mobilise communities, advocate for stronger protection mechanisms and work with all sectors of society towards a North West Province where women and girls can live without fear of violence
