PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TAKES SERVICES TO TSWAING LOCAL MUNICIPALITY THROUGH THUNTSHA LEROLE

Mahikeng: The North West Provincial Government led by Premier Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi will on Friday, 11 September 2026, roll out the Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Phase 6 across various villages in the Tswaing Local Municipality, including Ga-Khunwana, Kraaipan, Deelpan, Khibitswane, Polena and Moiragale.

In response to service delivery gaps identified in the municipality, various MECs, supported by the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Executive Mayor and Tswaing Local Municipality Mayor will join forces in implementing service delivery interventions including fixing the water infrastructure, potholes patching and food security among others.

A key intervention will focus on restoring a reliable water supply in Ga-Khunwana, Khibitswane, Polena and Moiragale. The work will include the removal and reinstallation of pumps, inspection and restoration of valves, and replacement of damaged standpipes to improve household access to reliable water.

As part of the Environmental Services Programme, the initiative will be activated as part of government’s efforts to create income-generating opportunities for communities through the collection and sale of recyclable waste, while promoting cleaner and healthier neighbourhoods.

An Environmental Youth Club Participation Trophy will also be handed over to the Deelpan Enviro Youth Club in recognition of its commitment to, and active participation in environmental initiatives.

The programme will further advance economic empowerment through an ABSA Hawkers Training Graduation Ceremony in Sannieshof, where 41 participants who have completed training in capacity building, financial literacy and entrepreneurship will be recognised.

Local business owners will also receive assistance with Centralised Supplier Database (CSD) registration and updates, enabling them to better position their businesses to access government procurement opportunities and participate in the local economy.

Community food security will be strengthened through the distribution of gardening tools and vegetable seedlings to Ga-Khunwana Primary School, Khunwana Traditional Office and individual beneficiary Refilwe Mabote, supporting food production and sustainable livelihoods.

In addition, 100 food parcels will be distributed to identified destitute families.

Through Thuntsha Lerole Phase 6, government continues to bring practical interventions closer to communities by restoring essential services, creating economic opportunities, strengthening food security and promoting active community participation in building better and more sustainable communities.

Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded – Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, including the service delivery interventions, project site visits and a community feedback session, scheduled as follows:

JOINT ACCELERATED THUNTSHA LEROLE AND DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT MODEL OPEN SERVICE DELIVERY DAY IN MAHIKENG

Mahikeng – In a continued effort to accelerate the delivery of services to communities across the province, Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi will, on Friday, 28 August 2026, be joined by Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, in his capacity as the National District Development Model (DDM) Champion for Ngaka Modiri Molema District, to lead the delivery of integrated services in Mahikeng Local Municipality.

The joint Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole and DDM Open Service Delivery Day will bring together all spheres of government and strategic partners to deliver coordinated services.

This collaborative approach will strengthen and complement the district and local municipalities’ ongoing service delivery efforts, thereby ensuring that communities have improved access to government services.

Residents of Moshawana, Signal Hill, Setumo Park, Seremane View, Molelwane, Lonely Park, Top Village and Matsatseng in Slurry are set to benefit from a range of social services to be provided by various government institutions and strategic partners on the day.

The leadership will conduct an oversight visit to the District funded Water Supply MIG project to assess progress in its implementation. The project is aimed at improving access to a reliable water supply for residents of Molelwane, Signal Hill and Lonely Park.

Other service delivery activities will include potholes patching, the distribution of garden tools, compliance inspections of local businesses, the clearing of illegal dumping sites, and other interventions aimed at addressing the immediate needs of communities.

Thuntsha Lerole is a flagship provincial programme aimed at accelerating service delivery, strengthening direct engagement with communities, and monitoring the implementation of infrastructure and social development projects.

This approach is aligned with the objectives of the District Development Model (DDM), an operational model that seeks to strengthen intergovernmental relations by enabling all spheres of government to plan, budget and implement programmes jointly, thereby maximising impact through the “One District, One Plan and One Budget” approach.

Premier Mokgosi and Deputy Minister Gungubele will be accompanied by Members of the Executive Council (MECs) and the leadership of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality and Mahikeng Local Municipality, for a joint programme that will be held as follows:

Date : Friday, 28 August 2026
