A very special sighting on the reserve: two adult porcupines with a youngster, out and about during the day. 🦔 Porcupines are mainly nocturnal, so seeing a family group this clearly in daylight is something we do not get to witness often. For World Migratory Bird Day, meet the Greater Striped Swallow (Cecropis cucullata), a familiar summer visitor across much of southern Africa.
These swallows undertake seasonal movements and return to southern breeding areas as conditions become favourable.
