💧🏗️ A major investment in infrastructure, public health and economic growth!

uMkhanyakude District Municipality marked a significant milestone today, Saturday, 17 October 2026, with the launch of the upgraded Mkuze Wastewater Treatment Works, led by Mayor Cllr Siphile Mdaka.

The event brought together Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Nomalungelo Gina, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Hon. Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, Jozini Mayor Cllr Nkosinathi Scelo Myeni, traditional leadership, business representatives and other government stakeholders.

💧 A R127.7 MILLION INVESTMENT WITH A BIG IMPACT!

The upgraded facility increases wastewater treatment capacity from 0.8 to 3.4 megalitres per day, strengthening sanitation services and laying the groundwork for future development.

This investment is about more than infrastructure. It creates an enabling environment for housing development, business investment, environmental protection and economic growth in Mkuze Town.

With improved wastewater infrastructure, Mkuze is better positioned to accommodate growing communities, support commercial activities and unlock new development opportunities.

The launch also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, traditional leadership and the private sector in advancing service delivery and building sustainable communities.

The Mkuze Wastewater Treatment Works represents an important step towards a healthier environment, improved sanitation and a more sustainable future for the people of uMkhanyakude.

🌍✈️ FROM uMKHANYAKUDE TO CHINA — TAKING LOCAL POTENTIAL TO GLOBAL MARKETS! 🇿🇦🇨🇳

Taking uMkhanyakude beyond borders. 🌍

uMhlosinga Development Agency (UMDA) continues to strengthen its international outlook by building knowledge, partnerships and connections that can translate into meaningful economic opportunities for uMkhanyakude District.

Ntokozo Mlambo, representing UMDA, is currently in China participating in the Seminar on Enhancing Export Strategies to China for South Africa, hosted by Hunan International Business Vocational College.

The programme is funded by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) and the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, reflecting a commitment to strengthening trade relations and fostering economic cooperation between South Africa and China.

The programme focuses on strengthening knowledge and capacity in trade development, export promotion and access to the Chinese market. Participants are gaining insights into Chinese market opportunities, export procedures, customs clearance, product compliance, branding, digital marketing, e-commerce and intellectual property protection.

The programme also includes study visits and knowledge-exchange engagements in Changsha, Hunan Province, and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, providing exposure to trade initiatives, agricultural research, innovation and China–Africa economic cooperation.

For uMkhanyakude District, this opportunity goes beyond international exposure. It provides a platform to gain practical knowledge, build strategic networks and explore pathways for local businesses, agricultural enterprises, entrepreneurs and emerging exporters to access wider markets.
