THUNTSHA LEROLE BRINGS GOVERNMENT SERVICES CLOSER TO MATLOSANA COMMUNITIES
The North West Provincial Government’s Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme brought government services directly to the people of Alabama and surrounding communities in the City of Matlosana on Friday, 16 October 2026.
The programme was led by North West Premier, Hon. Lazarus Mokgosi, accompanied by Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Nikiwe Num; MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Hon. Oageng Molapisi; City of Matlosana Executive Mayor, Cllr Fikile Mahlophe; and other government officials and stakeholders.
A major highlight of the programme was the official opening of the refurbished and rebuilt Alabama Primary School by Premier Mokgosi. As one of the area's oldest schools, the upgraded facility represents an important investment in education and the future of local learners. The improved infrastructure is expected to provide a safer, more conducive learning environment for both learners and educators.
From education to community safety, the programme also focused on tackling challenges affecting residents. In Palmietfontein, the South African Police Service (SAPS), as part of its ongoing efforts to combat counterfeit goods, uncovered an alleged illegal operation involving the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit alcohol.
Across the area, various service delivery initiatives were undertaken, including pothole repairs, law enforcement operations, scholar transport monitoring and business compliance inspections at local businesses and tuck shops. Government departments, including Social Development, Home Affairs and SAPS, were also on hand to provide support and bring essential services closer to residents.
In support of food security and environmental sustainability, MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), Hon. Bitsa Lenkopane, donated fruit trees and indigenous trees to the community. The initiative aims to encourage household food production, promote environmental awareness and contribute to greener, more sustainable communities.
The programme also created a platform for meaningful engagement between government and residents. During the community feedback session, residents were given an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions and engage directly with government representatives on issues affecting their daily lives. This interaction provided an opportunity for officials to listen to community concerns and respond to matters relating to service delivery.
Another significant moment was the handover of title deeds by Premier Mokgosi to local residents. The handover marked an important milestone for beneficiaries, strengthening their security of tenure and providing greater certainty over their property ownership.
In closing, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Nikiwe Num, expressed her appreciation to all participating government departments, stakeholders and community members for their contribution and active participation in the programme.
