Mi7 Surveillance Net Leads to Arrest of Suspects Linked to Robbery Incidents in Dalton and Greytown

Date: 23 October 2026

Suspects allegedly linked to a robbery in Dalton and a similar incident in Greytown were apprehended in Pietermaritzburg today, after Mi7's Surveillance Net detected a vehicle believed to have been used in the crimes.

The operation followed information received on 22 October regarding a BMW allegedly involved in an incident in Dalton, where a woman was reportedly lured into the vehicle before being robbed of her belongings and left at a supermarket.

The suspects allegedly made off with the woman's handbag, cellphone and cash, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at R6,000. A criminal case was subsequently opened with Dalton police.

Further information suggested that the same BMW may have been involved in a separate incident in Greytown, where a similar method had reportedly been used to target another victim.

Acting on the information, Mi7's Strategic Threat Response Unit (STRU) arranged for the vehicle's registration number to be loaded onto the Mi7 Surveillance Net, allowing its movements to be detected if it entered a monitored area.

The Mi7 Surveillance Net comprises strategically positioned surveillance cameras across more than 170 locations, incorporating Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology powered by Navic Cloud. The system allows Mi7 Control Room operators to identify flagged vehicles moving through monitored areas and coordinate responses based on their movements.

On Friday, 23 October, the BMW triggered an alert from the Surveillance Net after being detected in the Hayfields area of Pietermaritzburg.

Mi7 teams immediately responded to the alert and successfully intercepted the vehicle.

During the subsequent investigation, information emerged that additional suspects allegedly connected to the incidents were staying at a local bed and breakfast establishment. Working alongside detectives from Alexandra police station, Mi7 members located and apprehended the additional suspects.

The suspects were subsequently handed over to Dalton police for further investigation and processing in connection with the reported theft.

Police investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of their alleged involvement, including whether the suspects and vehicle can be linked to other cases.

Mi7 Recovers Stolen Bakkie Within 30 Minutes of Receiving Alert

Date: 21 October 2026

A bakkie stolen from a property in Hilton during the early hours of Wednesday morning was recovered by Mi7's Strategic Threat Response Unit (STRU) less than 30 minutes after the alarm was raised.

The blue Amarok had been stolen from a property just before 2am, with the owner reporting the theft to Mi7 Control Room Operators at around 3:40am.

The vehicle tracking company provided its last known location, which placed the stolen bakkie in the KwaPata area of Edendale. The information was relayed to a Mi7 STRU member, who was dispatched to investigate.

Acting on the tracking information, Mi7 STRU teams proceeded into KwaPata and successfully located the stolen Amarok at approximately 4:10am, about half an hour after Mi7 had received the initial report.

The vehicle had already been stripped of parts of its interior and the suspects had fled.

The owner was immediately informed of the recovery, and the police were contacted to attend to the matter. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for further investigation.

Two Suspects Apprehended after Armed Robbery and Shootout in Pietermaritzburg C*D

Date: 19 October 2026

Two suspects were arrested following an armed robbery and shootout at a salon in the Pietermaritzburg C*D on Friday morning, after Mi7's Strategic Threat Response Unit (STRU) and the SAPS Flying Squad traced a stolen cellphone to a vehicle at Edendale Hospital.

Just before 11am on Friday, Mi7 STRU members received information from local SAPS crime intelligence personnel regarding an armed robbery at a salon on Loop Street. According to initial reports, armed men had entered the salon and robbed those inside of their belongings, making off with four cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

As the suspects fled, shots were reportedly fired towards the salon's occupants, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.

Information subsequently emerged that a silver vehicle, which had sustained damage to its rear windows during the shootout, was allegedly involved in the robbery.

Mi7 STRU members attended the scene to gather further information. While they were investigating, one of the victims remotely accessed a stolen device and obtained location information indicating where it had travelled. Further enquiries led Mi7 teams towards the Edendale Hospital area, where one of the stolen cellphones had last been active.

Mi7 STRU members and the SAPS Flying Squad proceeded to the hospital to investigate.

At the hospital entrance, a security guard confirmed that a silver seven-seater vehicle with a damaged rear window had recently entered the premises.

The vehicle was located and secured, while police, Mi7 teams, and hospital security personnel began searching the hospital for the suspects.

Hospital security identified the driver of the vehicle, who was subsequently arrested. A second suspect was located inside the hospital receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound believed to have been sustained during the earlier shootout at the salon.

He was also placed under arrest, with security arrangements made at the hospital while he received treatment.

During the investigation, two cellphones were recovered from the driver's possession and subsequently identified by one of the complainants as belonging to him. Mi7 STRU members continued searching the area surrounding the suspects' vehicle. During this search, a fi***rm and a bloodstained hat were discovered concealed beneath a rock behind the vehicle.

The investigation took a further turn while teams were completing the necessary paperwork.

One of the robbery victims contacted Mi7 after receiving an updated location for another stolen cellphone, this time pointing to premises on Church Street in the Pietermaritzburg C*D.

Mi7 STRU members immediately followed up on the information, which led them to a cellphone shop.

A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of the complainant's stolen phone, which was reportedly in the process of being wiped.

Further investigations are underway.

Mi7 Surveillance Net Leads to Arrest of Two Suspects in TLB Tyre Theft Investigation

Date: 15 October 2026

Two suspects, including a staff member accused of stealing property from his employer, were apprehended following a Mi7 investigation into the theft of TLB tyres from a business premises in Lynnfield Park. The arrests came more than two weeks after the initial incident, with the Mi7 Surveillance Net playing a key role in identifying and tracing a vehicle believed to have been used in the theft.

The investigation began on 30 September, when an Mi7 client reported that TLB tyres had allegedly been stolen from another business operating on the same premises at approximately 11pm the previous evening.

CCTV footage from the property showed an Isuzu bakkie believed to be connected to the incident. However, the vehicle's registration number was not clearly visible, making it difficult to identify and trace.

Mi7 teams subsequently turned to the Mi7 Surveillance Net, reviewing footage from surveillance cameras in the Ashburton area to establish the vehicle's registration number.

The Mi7 Surveillance Net comprises strategically positioned surveillance cameras across more than 160 locations, incorporating Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology powered by Navic Cloud. The system allows Mi7 Control Room operators to identify flagged vehicles moving through monitored areas and coordinate responses.

Through the investigation, Mi7 successfully identified the bakkie's registration number and loaded it onto the Surveillance Net, allowing the system to flag the vehicle if it passed through a monitored area again.

On 14 October, more than two weeks after the reported theft, that alert finally came.

The vehicle was detected by the Mi7 Surveillance Net, prompting teams to respond and successfully intercept the Isuzu bakkie in Mkondeni.

The SAPS investigating officer was contacted and attended the scene, together with the complainant.

During questioning, the driver reportedly admitted to involvement in the theft of the TLB tyres and provided information about other property allegedly stolen during previous incidents.

The investigation then led Mi7 teams back to the premises where the original theft had occurred.

Further enquiries identified a second suspect, an employee of the affected business, who was allegedly removing tyres, vehicle parts and other property belonging to his employer without authorisation.

According to information gathered during the investigation, the employee had allegedly been passing the stolen goods to the driver of the Isuzu bakkie, who would then sell them.

The employee was subsequently apprehended in connection with the alleged thefts.

Both suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation.
