The Democratic Alliance (DA) has lodged a formal complaint with the Speaker of Council against Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Babalwa Lobishe for breaching the municipal Code of Conduct for Councillors.

Lobishe and her ANC/EFF coalition of chaos government has, over an extended period, been withholding non-confidential information from DA ward councillors, sabotaging their ability to service their communities. The Mayor is guilty of political misconduct and the Speaker must act.

The latest incident of withholding information relates to the Cityโ€™s recent public communication regarding ward councillor engagements about ongoing electricity outages and service delivery interventions. The coalition government deliberately created the false impression that all affected ward councillors were included in these processes. This is categorically untrue. DA ward councillors, whose communities are equally affected by prolonged power outages, were deliberately excluded.

The DA has written to the Acting City Manager and the Speaker to demand immediate remedial action, and informed the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Zolile Williams.

We will also report the Mayor to the COGTA Parliamentary Portfolio Committee again. She has appeared before the Committee twice already to account for Nelson Mandela Bayโ€™s collapse, yet has clearly not learned her lesson.

The exclusion of our ward councillors is not an administrative oversight but a calculated political strategy. It is a deliberate attempt to sabotage DA councillors and weaponise municipal services against residents living in DA wards.

What makes this conduct particularly disgraceful is that it does not merely target elected public representatives, it punishes ordinary residents and businesses that are struggling to survive.

While residents sit in darkness, businesses lose money, the economy declines, jobs disappear, and the vulnerable are exposed to crime, this administration focuses on political games instead of service delivery.

After the Local Government Elections on 4 November, under a DA government, all ward councillors and communities will be treated equally.

The DA will build a safe, well-run, and growing city for all residents to get Nelson Mandela Bay working again.

POTHOLE PLUGGING

So there's still no NMBM contract in place to purchase tar to fix potholes. No surprise there. The DA's Retief Odendaal heeded the appeal of DA Councillors across the Metro and sponsored buckets and buckets of gatvol pothole filler.๐Ÿงข

This morning, the team was out there filling one (actually four) pothole at a time. Making a difference. Getting it done. ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ
