Public Notice: The MBDA wishes to advise citizens and our incredible visitors to Nelson Mandela Bay - South Africa that our iconic flag is undergoing refurbishments and maintenance. Because we believe in transparency, we are happy to share the following details:

What broke?
The gearbox that drives the hoisting packed up after nearly 10 years of regular maintenance. This unit was manufactured in the USA and the MBDA took the decision to build capacity locally and have it repaired in SA. We are currently working on this.

How it broke?
The system is almost 10 years old and has come to an end of its life. The cause of the damage is caused by normal wear and tear.

When will it be fixed?
We hope to have this unit up and running before the end of February or sooner.

We sincerely apologize for the disruption in service to citizens and visitors.
