The red listed endangered "Hyobanche robusta" also known as "The Garden Route Catsnail" found today by members of Seaview Essential Hardware, high on the dunes between Maitland Beach and Blue Horizon Bay. Characterized by a large, fleshy underground rhizome and a narrow distribution in deep sand dune system along the coast of the Eastern and Western Cape. It is a root parasite, lacking green tissues and leaves, and depends entirely on host plants for survival. The species is threatened by habitat loss and degradation from coastal development, leading to its listing as Endangered by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).
