IPID has noted with concern, social media posts which are factually incorrect, by Lunga Gcabashe, on the death of Bonke Meyile in police custody in Gonobie.
It should be noted that the mother of Bonke Meyile is being kept abreast on the status of the case. As IPID, we do not have any responsibility to provide information to a third party, and in this instance, Lunga Gcabashe, as he is not a family representative

A Free State Police Constable was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for culpable homicide by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
Constable Moeketsi Moeketsane (33) was handed a wholly suspended sentence for culpable homicide of his colleague, Constable Nthabiseng Rachel Mapuru (31).
On 08 November 2025, at around 17h00, the Police Officers were on a routine parade at the station reporting for duty.
They were about to disperse, when Constable Moeketsane and Constable Mapuru were seen fiddling with a firearm. Moments later, fellow officers heard a gunshot and saw Constable Mapuru collapse, bleeding from the head. Paramedics were called to the scene, but pronounced her dead on arrival.
Constable Moeketsane was arrested and charged. He pleaded guilty to a charge of culpable homicide, and he was sentenced to seven years. The sentence was wholly suspended for a period of five years.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm on condition that he can apply if a psychiatrist issue a report declaring him fit to possess a firearm.
