OUT LGBT Well-being welcomes today’s landmark Equality Court judgment finding Ngizwe Mchunu guilty of hate speech, harassment and unfair discrimination against LGBTQ+ people.

This judgment sends a powerful message: Everyone has the right to dignity, equality and safety — including LGBTQ+ people.

We commend the courage of the complainants - TransHope, the Hate Crimes Working Group and the SA Human Rights Commission - as well as Lawyers For Human Rights and other activists and organisations who stood together to challenge harmful rhetoric and defend the rights of our communities.

Hate has consequences. Equality must prevail. 🏳️‍🌈

OUT LGBT Well-being supports the launch of the campaign, advocating for the decriminalisation of drugs for personal use. We believe this will help reduce public harm, increase access to health and social services and may ease the burden on our criminal justice system. See details of the launch below.

VUSUBUNTU brings together civil society organisations, public health experts, human rights advocates, community leaders, and people with lived experience to promote approaches grounded in human dignity, public health, community safety, and Ubuntu.

We believe in working towards a South Africa that is safe, healthy, and inclusive, and where no person is criminalised for their drug use.
