When it rains, emergencies pour. 🌧️🚑
It has been a particularly busy and demanding night for Best Care Emergency Medical Service in Pretoria, with heavy rainfall accompanied by a significant influx of medical emergencies across the city.
Among the cases attended to was a critical diabetic emergency, where a patient was found in a diabetic coma with dangerously low blood glucose levels. Our Advanced Life Support and Cardiac Unit, proudly driven by Chery Centurion, played a pivotal role in stabilising the patient while awaiting ambulance transport.
With several of our ambulances already committed to other high-priority emergencies, including motor vehicle collisions and a stroke case in Pretoria North, the availability of transport resources was under pressure. Despite these challenges, our paramedic team remained on scene, delivering advanced care and stabilisation until an ambulance became available to continue the patient’s journey to definitive care.
What made it particularly difficult is the poor networks due to the power outage in the North-East of Pretoria.
We would also like to extend a sincere word of thanks to the bystanders, off duty medical personnel and first responders who stepped in on another scene of a Cardiac Arrest, where they could and helped ease the workload during a night of immense pressure.
