The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) received 13,041 complaints in 2025/26, the highest number in its 28-year history.​

Despite the record volume, OPFA finalised 11,047 complaints during the year, highlighting the growing demand for dispute resolution within South Africa’s retirement funds sector.​

Taking OPFA’s services and knowledge to stakeholders across KwaZulu-Natal.​

The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) and the Ombud Council are engaging with HR and Payroll municipal officials in Durban as part of their ongoing stakeholder outreach and education initiatives.​

These engagements provide an opportunity to strengthen awareness of OPFA’s role, help stakeholders understand their rights and responsibilities, and provide guidance on accessing complaints and dispute resolution services.​

​By taking these conversations directly to communities and stakeholders across different regions, OPFA continues to make information about pension fund rights and access to redress more accessible.​

Your payslip is an important starting point, but a deduction on your payslip does not necessarily confirm that the money has reached your retirement fund. Swipe through to learn more and stay informed about your pension contributions so that you can help protect your financial future.​​

If your pension deduction does not reflect on your benefit statement, take the following steps before lodging a complaint with the OPFA:​

• Enquire with your HR Department or with the fund that you are registered with to try to resolve the matter.​

Looking back at 2026, the Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) had the opportunity to take important conversations about financial awareness and pension fund education directly into communities. 💡

From Ivory Park and Orange Farm to Springs, our outreach team engaged with community members, shared information, and answered questions about pension funds, retirement benefits, and members’ rights. Through these outreach activities, OPFA reached 237 people, sharing information and answering questions about pension funds, retirement benefits, and members' rights.

The conversation also extended to radio, with Atlegang Tshidi, Assistant Adjudicator at the OPFA, joining Thetha FM News and PUKfm 93.6 to unpack Money Smart Week and the importance of understanding your financial future.

📍 Eastern Cape Consumer Education Roadshow

The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is participating in a joint consumer education roadshow led by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT), together with various regulators and ombud schemes, to empower communities with information about their rights and available avenues for redress.

Yesterday, the OPFA joined the FAIS Ombud, the National Financial Ombud Scheme South Africa (NFOSA), the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud, the Council for Debt Collectors, the National Credit Regulator, NERSA and other stakeholders in Cookhouse, Sarah Baartman District, engaging with community members on consumer rights and available complaint resolution services.
