This week, the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) convened meetings of its subcommittees, namely the Built Environment Transformation Committee (BETC) and the Shared Services Committee (SSC).

The committees deliberated on key matters affecting the built environment sector, including delays in the payment of professionals, the review of the administration of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for built environment practitioners ,including associated costs and the finalisation of the CBE Sixth-Term Council Handover Report.

The respective committees will submit their recommendations for CBE Council approval in the coming weeks.

Through these governance structures, the CBE continues to strengthen the built environment sector and drive meaningful transformation.

The Council for the Built Environment CBE) convened its Strategic Planning Session to sharpen its priorities and strengthen its contribution to a safer, professional and transformed built environment.

The session brings together CBE leadership and staff to reflect on progress, interrogate emerging sector priorities, and ensure that the organisation’s plans remain responsive to its regulatory mandate and the needs of South Africa’s built environment.

At the heart of the discussions is a simple question: How do we translate our mandate into measurable public value?

Through stronger regulation, professionalisation, public protection, strategic partnerships and sector leadership, the CBE continues to position itself to respond to the challenges facing the built environment — while building the institutional capability required for the future.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR DIGNITY | NDWEDWE, KWAZULU-NATAL

The Council for the Built Environment was honoured to join the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala, at the handover of newly constructed Victim Support Rooms at Ndwedwe Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal.

As part of the day's activities, CBE representatives together with the Deputy Minister , the Mayor of ilembe District Municipality and Mayor of Ndwedwe Local Municipality participated in a painting initiative to help create a welcoming, safe and dignified space for survivors of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

This collaboration highlights the power of partnerships in delivering meaningful infrastructure that supports vulnerable communities and places dignity, safety and well-being at the heart of service delivery.
