A high-performance culture begins with us.

Building a high-performing organisation takes more than targets, systems and performance indicators. It takes people who understand their role, live the organisation’s values and take responsibility for how they contribute to its success.

On 13 October, SITA launched its High-Performance Culture Programme under the banner SITA Connect – One SITA. One Culture. One Future. The launch created an opportunity for SITAzens to reflect on the culture we want to build, the behaviours that support it and the changes needed to help us work better as one organisation.

Through leadership reflections, panel discussions and interactive group activities, the programme brought attention to the importance of values, innovation, accountability and learning from one another. It also reinforced the role every SITAz en plays in turning organisational aspirations into everyday practice.

As SITA continues to support government's digital transformation journey, building a culture that enables people to perform at their best is essential. The commitment starts with each of us, in how we approach our work, support our colleagues and deliver on our mandate.

The Agency acknowledges the SITA Board, the Honorable Minister of the Department Communications & Digital Technologies, Mr Solly Malatsi as well as the DCDT Director General, Ms. Nonkqubela Jordan-Dyani for the leadership, strategic guidance and sustained support that have contributed to the organisation's progress.

Their stewardship has fostered an enabling environment for institutional renewal, improved performance and more effective delivery. As SITA builds on these gains, the Agency remains committed to working with its leadership and stakeholders to translate this progress into enduring institutional strength, trusted digital services and greater public value.

One SITA. One Culture. One Future. It starts with us.

SITA advances institutional renewal and trusted digital delivery

SITA presented its 2025/26 Annual Report in Parliament to the Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies. The report highlights progress in strengthening governance and accountability, including SITA’s unqualified audit opinion.

During the reporting period, SITA maintained network availability of 99.8%, connected 1 018 sites through the SA Connect programme, delivered four digital government services and expanded cybersecurity monitoring across government. SITA also continued investing in innovation and digital skills by developing new digital solutions, exploring responsible applications of artificial intelligence, training employees and creating opportunities for graduates and learners. SITA reached over 2,800 learners through AI, cybersecurity and data science programmes, while supporting communities and youth development initiatives across the country. The Agency recognises that its institutional renewal is an ongoing process, Areas that have been prioritised in the new financial year include work to improve customer service, procurement, contract management and the ex*****on of strategic projects.

The audit outcome is an important governance milestone and it provides for a strong foundation to deliver secure, reliable and accessible digital services that help government and serve people more effectively.

SITA remains committed to building a capable, connected and trusted digital state that serves all South Africans.

SITA’s journey towards a high-performance culture calls for more than new ideas or strategies. It requires us to reflect on how we work, how we lead and how we show up for one another in our everyday interactions.

During the afternoon session, Managing Director Magatho Mello lead the Opening Reflection and Leadership Call: Our High-Performance Culture Journey – Why Culture, Why Now? The session invited SITAzens to reflect on why culture matters now and the role each of us plays in shaping the organisation we want to become.

He also introduced and spoke about SITA Connect, our culture identity, a step towards giving our shared values meaning through the way we work, make decisions and serve our stakeholders.

A high-performance culture starts with leadership and the choices we make every day, because the culture we aspire to build must be visible in what we do, not just in what we say.

Culture change starts with people, and it grows through the things we do every day.

Meet some of our SITAzens who are taking on the role of Culture Change Catalysts across SITA. They help bring our high-performance culture ambitions to life by connecting the bigger picture with the everyday experiences of colleagues in their respective divisions.

From how we communicate and work through challenges to the way we support one another, culture is shaped by the choices we make every day.

Our Culture Change Catalysts help keep these conversations going, encouraging colleagues to reflect, engage and turn shared values into everyday practice.

Because building a high-performance SITA is not the responsibility of a few. It is something we all contribute to.

Sometimes, all it takes is a good conversation to see things a little differently.

At SITA, building a high-performance culture means creating space for SITAzens to share their experiences, listen to one another and learn from different points of view. That’s what Group Dynamic Peer Reflections are all about.

These conversations help colleagues understand one another better, talk openly about everyday challenges and discover new ways of working together.

After all, we don’t always need big changes to make a difference. Sometimes, it starts with listening, being open to new ideas and making small changes in how we support one another.

One conversation can spark a new perspective. Together, we can build a stronger SITA.

As part of SITA’s High-Performance Culture journey, the Fishbone Exercise on Values panel created an opportunity to reflect on two important questions: What is preventing us from becoming a high-performance organisation, and what must we collectively do differently to make this ambition part of our everyday reality?

The exercise encouraged reflection on the behaviours, decisions and workplace practices that influence how we collaborate, take responsibility and deliver on our shared mandate.

Building a high-performance culture requires more than defining our values. It calls for each of us to put them into practice through our daily interactions, how we approach challenges, support one another and remain accountable for our contributions.

Ultimately, a high-performance SITA is shaped by all its people. It is through our collective commitment to doing things differently, upholding our values and working towards a common purpose that we turn our ambition into action.

A high-performance culture is built through action, accountability and a shared commitment to excellence.

At SITA, building this culture means looking at how we work, how we innovate and how we take responsibility for the results we deliver.

The High-Performance Culture Contributors Panel brought together perspectives on key initiatives across the organisation, including Human Capital Management (HCM), innovation, DevSecOps, Fraud Week and Chief Information Officer (CIO) initiatives.

Each of these areas contributes to a stronger organisation, from investing in people and encouraging new ideas to embedding security into technology delivery, promoting awareness of fraud risks and advancing strategic ICT priorities.

Ultimately, a high-performance culture is not created by policies or programmes alone. It takes people who are willing to take ownership, work collaboratively and translate commitments into meaningful action.

It begins with us. It is strengthened by how we work together. And it is reflected in what we deliver.

It Begins With Us: Why High-Performance Culture Matters

“For everything to happen the right way, it must begin with us. We must give it our all.”

These words from Lerato Ramatseba, during the introduction, “Why High-Performance Culture – SITA Connect Launch”, capture an important truth about building a high-performing organisation: meaningful change starts with the people who make it possible.

Through SITA Connect, we reflect on how we work together, how we take responsibility and how our everyday choices shape the culture we experience at SITA.

High performance is not only about meeting targets or delivering results. It is also about showing up for one another, sharing knowledge, working beyond organisational boundaries and taking ownership of the responsibilities entrusted to us.

As the State IT Agency, our work supports government’s digital journey and its ability to serve citizens. Delivering on this responsibility calls for a united team, a shared purpose and a collective commitment to doing our best.

SITA Connect reminds us that the culture we want to see cannot be built by one person or one team alone. It begins with each of us and grows through the way we lead, collaborate, innovate and serve.

One SITA. One Culture. One Future.

What does it take to build a high-performing organisation? It takes more than technology, targets and strategies. It takes people who share a purpose, work together and take responsibility for the results they create.

At SITA’s High-Performance Culture Event, we introduce SITA Connect — a shared identity for our journey towards building a high-performing, trusted and future-ready State IT Agency.

SITA Connect reflects an important truth: while technology connects government through systems and digital services, it is our people who connect the knowledge, ideas, skills and capabilities that make effective service delivery possible.

The name draws on the creativity and contributions of SITAzens, reinforcing the belief that our culture is something we build together.

As the State IT Agency, our work supports government's digital journey and its ability to serve citizens. Building a culture that encourages collaboration, accountability and innovation is therefore central to how we fulfil this responsibility.

SITA Connect. Connected People. Connected Ideas. Connected Capabilities.

Together, we embrace one shared ambition: One SITA. One Culture. One Future.
