The University of the Free State, IFLA Information Technology Section and IFLA AI SIG, is hosting the event in collaboration with LIASA, National Library of South Africa and the National University of Lesotho, from the 09th -13th November 2026, Parys, Free State, South Africa.

We invite librarians, practitioners, scholars, technologists, and innovators to share evidence-based experiences, research findings, and visionary projects that demonstrate how AI can be responsibly integrated into library ecosystems.

Theme: “Building an AI-Empowered World: Practical Applications of AI”

Please join as we all celebrate the SA Digital Digital Literacy Day

Next week Thursday you can join us online or RSVP to attend in person, see details below.

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA), in collaboration with the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), Gauteng Provincial Library Services, and the City of Tshwane, is proud to host the 2026 South African Digital Literacy Day at the NLSA’s Pretoria Campus. The overarching theme for the 2026 UNESCO Global MIL is "We All Play a Part: Media and Information Literacy for the People". South Africa is expanding on this global vision under the sub-theme: "Let’s Play a Part in Digital Skills Development." The main event features interactive demonstrations, expert talks, live Mobireadathon digital reading competition showcasing the value of technology including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), 3D printing, robotics, coding, and online learning platforms.

LIASA STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIPS IN PRESERVING SOUTH AFRICA’S RICH ORAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE

National Oral History Conference 2026 is currently underway in the Eastern Cape, Gqeberha, hosted under the theme, "Voices Across Time and Space: Oral Histories of Resistance, Collaboration and Resilience." The conference runs until 16 October 2026.

The LIASA, represented by Prof. L. Makgahlela, delivered a message of support at the Oral History Association of South Africa (OHASA) Conference in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

LIASA’s participation reaffirms its commitment to collaboration, knowledge preservation, inclusivity and the recognition of diverse voices in documenting South Africa’s history and cultural heritage.

Through partnerships with organisations such as OHASA, LIASA continues to champion the preservation of indigenous knowledge, the sharing of historical narratives and the amplification of voices that shape our collective identity.

Together, we preserve our stories, honour our resilience and empower future generations through knowledge.

If elegance had a soundtrack, this would be it! 🥂✨ The LIASA Conference 2026 Gala Dinner brought together a community united by a passion for libraries, a commitment to knowledge and a deep love for our beautiful South Africa.

From the stunning outfits and timeless Sophiatown-inspired style to the smiles, laughter, music and joyful moments shared on the dance floor, the evening was a true celebration of culture, connection and professional unity.
