Launching the newly renovated, state-of-the-art engineering lab earlier today at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube emphasised the importance of partnerships between the department, institutions of higher learning, and industry.
This is as the university unveiled a R 2.2 million upgraded laboratory, fully funded by Aberdare Cables.
The deputy minister heaped praise on the partnership between UKZN and Aberdare, which extends to bursaries for engineering and ICT students.
"We particularly welcome Aberdare’s view that this is a foundational step towards a broader, long-term engagement. That is exactly the kind of partnership our post-school system needs," she said.
Before, the facility accommodated only 80 students; after the facelift, it now accommodates 163.
It has 175 new network access points, modern workstations, new projection systems, better lighting and a space designed for collaboration. That is not merely a refurbishment. It is a statement about the kind of country we are building.
