TSHWANE-METRO SE NALATIGHEID HELP KABELDIEWE IN GROENKLOOF
Anne-Marie Sparg

TSHWANE METRO’S NEGLIGENCE FACILITATES CABLE THEFT IN GROENKLOOF
The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) once again urges the Tshwane Metro to clear away dense vegetation in parts of Groenkloof, particularly along the boundary fences of the Unisa and UP campuses.
Approximately 1 500 residents, several businesses and the Groenkloof Life Hospital have been stranded without electricity since 02:00 yesterday morning after power cables were stolen for the second time in less than a month.
The densely overgrown vegetation is also severely hampering the Metro’s repair efforts. The previous time, it took technicians three days just to locate the fault and this time, it took them an entire day to search through the thick undergrowth to find the exact spot where the thieves had struck.
The Electricity Department is currently busy replacing the stolen cables, but due to the extent of the damage, it will still be some time before power supply is fully restored.
Groenkloof residents have had enough of these frequent outages, for which the Metro is partly to blame seeing as it has neglected to clear the areas and criminals use the cover of the dense vegetation to carry out their criminal activities.
The local government elections on 4 November 2026 present residents with a golden opportunity to vote for the Freedom Front Plus, which will ensure proper service delivery in their neighbourhoods. - Cllr. Anne-Marie Sparg
