Hessequa Municipality A Caring, Serving & Growing Municipality Hessequa is gently curving the edge of the continent just east of the southern-most tip of Africa.

Hessequa Municipality is about 320km’s from Cape Town on the N2 and is situated in the Garden Route District Municipality. At present, the Municipal area of Hessequa includes the surrounding towns of Riversdale, Heidelberg, Slangrivier, Albertinia, Gouritsmond, Slangrivier, Stilbaai, Jongensfontein and Witsand. The name Hessequa, meaning “people of the trees”, refers to the tribe of Khoikhoi people that used to live in the region. Hessequa is the entrance to the world famous Garden Route and is nestled in the shadow of the Langeberg Mountain, and in the embrace of the warm Indian Ocean, stretching from the magnificent Breede River in the west, and the majestic Gourits River in the east. A region rich in natural beauty with rolling hills of pristine limestone and mountain fynbos, dune thicket and Renosterveld and to the north surrounded with rugged mountains and indigenous forests. Pristine beaches stretch the entire length of her coastline. Ecological assets include four estuaries, a word heritage forest site, several nature reserves which guard a number of rare and endangered floral species.

PLANNED INTERRUPTION OF THE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY: PARTS OF STILBAAI WEST

To repair a miniature substation, the electricity supply will be interrupted:

▪️ DATE: Thursday, 22 October 2026

▪️ ALTERNATIVE DATE: Tuesday, 27 October 2026

▪️ TIME: 08:00 to 16:00

▪️ AFFECTED AREAS: Part of Main Road West (Bridge area), Orchid Drive, Karee Avenue and Waterkant Street in Stilbaai West.

NOTICE OF ESKOM PLANNED MAINTENANCE: 23 – 25 OCTOBER 2026

Residents are hereby informed that Eskom will undertake planned maintenance on the Droë rivier–Proteus 400 kV line from 23 to 25 October 2026.

PLEASE NOTE that no interruption of electricity supply to Hessequa Municipality’s customers is currently anticipated. However, during this period, the network will operate with only one line available, reducing redundancy.

Should the remaining line trip due to an unforeseen fault, electricity supply interruptions may occur affecting Gouritsmond, Albertinia, Still Bay and Riversdale.

We thank residents for their understanding and cooperation during this period. Hessequa Municipality will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any relevant updates should circumstances change.

⚠️ REGULASIES RAKENDE BOME EN OORHANGENDE PLANTE OP SYPAADJIES

Ons herinner die gemeenskap vriendelik aan die amptelike beleid van die Hessequa Munisipaliteit rakende bome en tuine op sypaadjies. Verskeie sypaadjies is oorgroei met aangeplante tuine.

❌ Dit belemmer die deurgang vir voetgangers
❌ Dit blokkeer toegang tot noodsaaklike ondergrondse dienste
❌ Dit belemmer bestuurders se sigafstand op ons paaie.

Om boetes te vermy en ons dorp veilig te hou, let asseblief op die volgende munisipale reëls:

✅ Bome op sypaadjies is die Munisipaliteit se verantwoordelikheid. Inwoners mag nie bome op sypaadjies afkap of self daar plant sonder vooraf toestemming van die Munisipaliteit nie.

✅ Vereistes vir die plant van nuwe bome:
Indien u toestemming kry om 'n boom te plant, moet dit aan die volgende kriteria voldoen:
o Dit moet inheems wees.
o Dit moet verkieslik nie bo-oor ondergrondse dienste aangeplant word nie.
o Dit moet waterwys wees.
o Dit moet verkieslik immergroen (evergreen) wees.

✅ Beskermde bome: Let wel dat beskermde bome slegs gesnoei of afgekap mag word as 'n amptelike goedgekeurde permit uitgereik is.

Ons Versoek aan Inwoners:
🌳 As u privaat tuin of plante vanaf u erf oor die sypaadjie hang, snoei dit asseblief dringend terug.
🌳 Indien daar 'n boom op die sypaadjie voor u erf is wat die sypaadjie heeltemal blokkeer of skade aan infrastruktuur aanrig, moet u die munisipaliteit nader vir die nodige stappe.
