22nd October 2026. Delivered a Key Note Address at the Launch of the 13th Edition of the Rwanda Governance Score Card. A tool developed by the Rwanda Governance Board that assesses governance and institutional performance across the entire public sector.
Such a tool is particularly relevant in the context of Malawi to ensure that there is enhanced accountability in the executive, judiciary and legislature.

From 5–8 October 2026 in Balaclava, Mauritius, I took part in a series of discussions on African finance and credit ratings.

On 5 and 6 October, the 2nd Africa Annual Credit Rating Conference brought together more than 200 experts to discuss how to channel Africa’s estimated US$4 trillion in capital toward productive sectors.

On 7 October, I organised and attended the official launch of the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA), headquartered in Port Louis. AfCRA is an independent, self-funded, private-sector-driven institution under the oversight of the African Peer Review Mechanism. It will complement—not replace—existing international rating agencies and is not owned by governments.

AfCRA aims to strengthen understanding of African credit risk through relevant data, expertise and local context, while widening access to ratings for governments, businesses and public and private institutions. This could help improve market transparency and investor confidence, and support countries such as Malawi in attracting finance for development priorities.

Engagements in the Kingdom of Lesotho, 14th to 15th September 2026

On 15th September I led a mission to the Kingdom of Lesotho to undertake Country Institutional Consultations for the development of the African Governance Report. The country institutional consultations form a vital part of collecting insights and empirical evidence for the African Governance Reports.
During the mission our delegation engaged extensively with key state and non-state actors. The discussions centered on evaluating national governance frameworks that drive efforts to advance human capital development, youth in technological innovation, artificial intelligence and e-governance, and youth leadership in the public and private sector.
The findings from these consultations in Lesotho will directly contribute to and inform the broader continental agendas, and recommendations for African governments. The report will be presented to the African Union Assembly in January 2027.

21st to 24th July 2026, Abidjan, Ivory Coast - attending the 9th meeting of the Specialised Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration, of the African Union. The meeting is examining pathways to Financing Africa’s Industrialisation for Sustainable Development.
During the engagements I spoke about the need for a credit rating agency both as a key institution in Africa’s efforts to develop a viable domestic capital market (est at USD4 Trillion) that would avail much needed capital for various investments including those in infrastructure development.
These efforts will make it possible for Malawi to benefit from greater volumes of capital at affordable cost.
