Amahlathi Local Municipality has officially kicked off its 2027/28 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Roadshows, an important public participation process aimed at engaging communities and identifying priority needs to inform the municipality’s planning and budgeting processes.
The roadshows were led by Mayor Nongqayi, who engaged with Stutterheim community representatives alongside Cllr Nqini, Cllr Ncevu, Cllr Tokwe, ward committee members and other stakeholders.
During the engagement, the Mayor presented the 2027/28 IDP, Performance Management System (PMS) and Budget Process Plan Outline, providing an overview of the key activities and consultations that will guide the upcoming planning and budgeting cycle.
“The IDP roadshows demonstrate the importance of public participation in municipal planning. By engaging councillors, ward committees and communities, the municipality creates a platform through which residents’ needs and priorities can be communicated and considered during the development of municipal plans and budgets,” said Mayor Cllr Nomakosazana Nongqayi.
The session concluded with a ward based plan review and priority needs identification exercise, where ward representatives discussed community challenges and developmental priorities. These included roads, water and sanitation, job creation and youth development, bridges and fencing, healthcare, education facilities, community halls, high mast lighting, small town revitalisation, site allocation and sports facilities.
The information gathered during the roadshows will assist the municipality in reviewing ward based plans and ensuring that identified community priorities are considered in future planning, performance management and budgeting processes.
