Vijver joined our team on 1 May 2012, after discovering that there was something about the Garden Route that kept drawing her back. She fell in love with the area and found her way into tourism through her passion for promoting a place she truly loved.
Her love for animals started with a rather unexpected rescue.
While living somewhere that didnโt allow animals, Vijver was told she could have a hamster. Instead, she ended up rescuing a guinea pig named Gizzy. Gizzy had been kept in a tiny cage and wasnโt getting the care she needed. She was even known for biting people โ until Vijver gave her the space, food and care she deserved.
That experience taught Vijver something she has never forgotten: every animal deserves a chance.
Vijver started her journey with us as our Social Media Manager and has since grown into her role as Operations Manager. Today, one of her biggest priorities is making sure our guests receive the best possible experience and leave Monkeyland with a big smile.
And no job is ever beneath her. When things get busy, youโll find her helping with walk-ins or at reception, right alongside her team.
One moment she will never forget? Witnessing a baby lemur being born.
Vijver is incredibly proud of her team and loves seeing how much they enjoy what they do โ something she believes shines through in the experience they create for our guests.
Outside of work, Vijver enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting the farm, and getting together with her siblings for a braai and a few games.
And something that surprises people about her? Sheโs Afrikaans.
Her random fact? She drinks Coke Zeroโฆ mixed with water.
After all these years, Vijver is still part of the heart behind Monkeyland โ and weโre very lucky to have her.
