The Kafue river system has 68 fish species which are indigenous to the Kafue River (thankfully the Niloticas has not made it up from the Zambezi yet). Over the past month we have been mainly targeting the bream species using a variety of tactics such as Rapala, spinners and worms. Spinners are winners at the moment!

Currently we have recorded a total of 9 species of largemouth (hump back large mouth, and purple face) and small mouth bream species including the pink happy, 3 spot and Kafue pink Bream. Other fish species that have given us good sport is the sharp toothed catfish, the Kafue Pike and the Labeo aka The Yellow Fish in the faster moving shallow waters.

Mushingashi’s extreme river diversity plays a large factor into why our 17km of river frontage has some of the best fishing the Kafue has to offer. From deep pools, to quiet back waters to rapids and fast flowing waters.

Bush Trail Safaris strives in all aspects to practicing responsible angling techniques and, releasing, handling and photographing fish. That’s not to say we don’t keep a few for the frying pan!

A common resident in our Miombo woodlands. The Mushingashi Conservancy is renown throughout Africa as having one of the largest naturally occurring populations of Sable.

The highly experienced game scouts and officers of Mushingashi have achieved incredible success over the past 15 years. Bush Trail Safaris is proud to be a part of the conservation project and we hope that with your support of visiting the conservancy it goes from strength to strength.

THE BUSH TRAIL SAFARI CO HAS OPENED MUTENDELE BUSH CAMP IN THE MUSHINGASHI PRIVATE CONSERVANCY ON THE NORTH EASTERN BOUNDARY OF THE KAFUE NATIONAL PARK.
Mutendele Bush Camp is a small and intimate tented camp, comprising just four en-suite tented chalets overlooking the Kafue River. The living space sits on a raised rocky outcrop with 180 degree view of the meadering Kafue River. Such amenities include an open air dining area for dinner under the stars, a small lounge area, as well as a bar and small library.
This nostalgic tented camp embraces everything that a traditional safari camp should strive for, (except for the heavy price tag). All activities are led by owners Matthew and Rebecca Howarth, while guests are able to set the tempo of their day. Activities include day and night game drives, birding, nature walks and a range of water-based adventures such as river cruises or fishing.
