LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE COMMISSION CONDUCTS STAFF AUDIT IN KALULUSHI
Kalulushi – 3 June 2026
The Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has embarked on a nationwide Staff Audit exercise aimed at verifying employee qualifications, assessing staff competencies, and eliminating any ghost workers within local authorities.
A team led by Local Government Service Commission Commissioner Ms. Liseli Sishekano visited Kalulushi Municipal Council to conduct the audit exercise and engage with management on various audit-related matters.
The exercise seeks to validate the physical presence of every employee and ensure that staff records are accurate and up to date.
Speaking during a meeting with Management and representatives from Devolved Departments, Ms. Sishekano emphasized that promotions should be based strictly on merit. She noted that the Commission is committed to enhancing professionalism, discipline, performance, and positive work attitudes among council officers.
Ms. Sishekano further congratulated the Council Management on the construction of the new Civic Centre, describing the infrastructure as a significant milestone that demonstrates the Council's commitment to improving service delivery and creating a conducive working environment for staff.
The staff audit forms part of broader efforts by the Commission to improve efficiency, accountability, and service delivery in local authorities across the country.
Speaking at the same meeting, Kalulushi Municipal Council Town Clerk, Ms. Betty Liswaniso, underscored the importance of assessing workforce performance to ensure that officers are effectively carrying out their respective duties and responsibilities.
Ms. Liswaniso thanked the Commission for undertaking the timely and important exercise, noting that it would contribute significantly to improving efficiency and effectiveness within the local authority.
The audit exercise is expected to strengthen human resource management systems and enhance operational efficiency within the Council and the local government sector at large.

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Immediate Past Councillor for Twaiteka Ward, Hon. Stephen Mulayi, who passed away yesterday morning after an illness.
Hon. Mulayi will be remembered for his dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to the people of Twaiteka Ward.
His contribution to the community will not be forgotten.

Kalulushi District has deployed 50 Voter Education Facilitators (VEFs) across Kalulushi and Chambishi Constituencies to conduct voter education activities ahead of the August 2026 General Elections.
The voter education exercise is scheduled to run from 1st June to 31st July 2026 and is aimed at equipping eligible voters with essential information on the electoral process, voter rights and responsibilities, and electoral procedures.
The initiative seeks to promote informed participation and enhance public understanding of the electoral process in preparation for the forthcoming General Elections.
