K850 PER 25KG MEALIE-MEAL BAG IN MILENGE

Today, we paid a courtesy call on Chief Sokontwe of Milenge District in Luapula Province. He informed us that it is unfair that his subjects are buying mealie-meal at K850 per 25 kg bag when they are equally Zambians.

The Chief is saddened that fertilizer delivered in his Chiefdom was underweight containing three gallons only shared among families. He said sharing a gallon of fertilizer is perpetuating inequality in society especially that he has even been notifying the Office of the President (OP).

Chief Sokontwe also brought to our attention that Milenge is so neglected that it has never received relief food despite high poverty levels. He said Luapula, which is considered to be the least developed but has good rainfall would easily feed other provinces in Zambia.

The Chief further revealed that Cassava Brown Streak disease has ravaged his area of which no attention has been received after Mount Makulu Agricultural Research Station collected samples.
The road network has been neglected with the pontoon is no longer functioning.

We, in the SP believe in the spirit of unity in diversity. When we take over government, we will restore the dignity of our people and the dignity of our chiefs.

We value the insights and wisdom shared by Chief Sokontwe, and they have strengthened our Party’s resolve to end inequality among Zambians.

CHINSALI HEADMEN ASK M'MEMBE TO COMPLETE SATA'S DEVELOPMENT VISION

Some Headmen in Itapwa Ward, Chinsali District in Muchinga Province, say development has stalled in their area from the time President Michael Sata died, hoping that Socialist Party - SP President Fred M'membe would liberate them from the jaws of poverty.

Speaking when Dr. M'membe paid a courtesy call, one of the Headmen, Headman Chilinda, said Constituency Development Fund-CDF in Chinsali is not adding any value as they just hear about it on radio.

He said activities earmarked for CDF projects in the area only end at promises fearing growing inequality.

Headman Chilinda appealed to Dr. M'membe to expand health infrastructure in the area should he be Republican President.

He also appealed to Dr. M'membe to increase the number of bags of fertilizer as they are currently sharing one bag in cooperatives.

The Traditional Leader said the area also got funding for a secondary school when late Michael Sata was President but that the project stalled without any accountability.

He said President Sata had pledged to connect the area to electricity but that the vision has collapsed, hoping that Dr. M'membe remembers them in case he gets into State House.

Headman Chilinda further complained that the area has no mobile phone network making it difficult to communicate with the rest of the world.

Meanwhile, Socialist Party - SP President Fred M'membe said headmen in Zambia are suffering because they are not on payroll.

Dr. M'membe said his Government will prioritize the plight of Traditional Leaders by according them their lost dignity.

He said headmen in the past would receive gifts from subjects but that the practice has stopped because of high poverty levels.
