CAMM HANDS OVER K481,943 ABLUTION BLOCK TO LUTHERAN MISSION RURAL HEALTH CENTRE AS FACILITY CLOCKS 65 YEARS OF FREE SERVICE
Shibuyunji District Commissioner Alfred Shaputu has commended Central Africa Medical Mission (CAMM) for constructing a modern ablution block at Lutheran Mission Rural Health Centre Mwembeshi in Kalundu Ward, Shibuyunji District of Central Province.
Speaking when he officiated at the ribbon cutting ceremony of the newly constructed ablution block, Mr. Shaputu said it is gratifying to note that the facility has clocked 65 years of selfless service, providing free medical services to the people since 1961.
Mr. Shaputu congratulated CAMM through its CEO Madam Kath Wood, members of staff and the clinic administrator, saying they have built walls and a roof, but also restored dignity.
He said government under President Hakainde Hichilema has created a conducive environment for partners to thrive, complementing the Grow Zambia agenda.
Mr. Shaputu said government is aware of the need for a maternity ward at the health centre and said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) route taken by the community is the right one.
He has since called on the community and management to guard the facility jealously.
Lutheran Mission Rural Health Centre Administrator Alisad Banda said the facility, which has served the community free of charge for 65 years, will now have improved hygiene and dignity for both patients and staff who previously faced challenges due to inadequate sanitation.
Mr. Banda thanked CAMM for responding to the clinic's longstanding need.
Meanwhile, CAMM Executive Director Kath Wood said the investment goes beyond infrastructure to restoring dignity and preventing infections at a facility that has given 65 years of free service.
Ms. Wood said her organisation remains committed to complementing government efforts in delivering quality health care especially in rural areas.
Mwembezhi West Member of Parliament Austin Milambo commended the NGO for supplementing government efforts.
Mr. Milambo said partnerships such as this are vital in bridging gaps in health service delivery.
Shibuyunji Town Council Chairperson Macmillian Shimukonka also commended CAMM for its support to the health sector, saying the local authority will continue to work with cooperating partners to improve service delivery in the district.
And Shibuyunji District Health Director Dr. Evans Muleya said the new ablution block will enhance health service delivery at the facility that has been offering free services since 1961.
Dr. Muleya said improved sanitation is key in infection prevention and control.
Meanwhile speaking on behalf of the community, Chitanda Village Headman Albany Chindalo commended CAMM for its continued support to the area.
Mr. Chindalo said the community is grateful and will ensure the facility, which has served them for 65 years without charge, is well maintained.
The ablution block which comprises toilets and bathing points for patients and staff was constructed at a cost of Four Hundred and Eighty One Thousand Nine Hundred and Forty Three Kwacha (K481,943).
