Eastern MPs are showing confidence in Hichilema - GODAZA
THE Governance and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) says the decision by 15 Members of Parliament from Eastern Province to endorse President Hakainde Hichilema shows that confidence in the Head of State’s leadership is growing ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The MPs made the endorsement on Saturday in Mfuwe when President Hichilema arrived in the province for the upcoming Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony.
GODAZA Executive Director Elias Mulenga said the endorsement sends a strong message about the region’s renewed trust in the President.
“This endorsement is a game-changer for President Hichilema’s 2026 re-election bid and demonstrates strong support from a region whose political voice carries significant weight nationally,” Mulenga said.
He explained that the support emerging from Eastern Province comes at a time when the President is already receiving positive backing from other regions, including Copperbelt Province and Southern Province.
Mulenga said the endorsement was not only coming from political leaders but also from people at community level.
“The support we are seeing is not limited to politicians alone. Ordinary citizens, women and young people are backing President Hichilema because they can see tangible progress and a clear vision for the country,” he said.
He added that the organisation believes the growing support is linked to visible national achievements recorded over the last four years, especially efforts to stabilize and revive an economy that he said was previously struggling.
Mulenga said GODAZA is confident that the rising support will help strengthen mobilisation efforts as the country heads towards the 2026 polls.

Call for Inclusive Monitoring of 2026 Elections
As GODAZA we are calling for inclusive election monitoring in 2026!
We urge government & Electoral Commission to collaborate with civil society, churches & unions for transparent & credible elections
As GODAZA we stand firm on development! We therefore dismiss PF's Emmanuel Mwamba's claims to shelve the Batoka Gorge Hydro-Electric Scheme, it is misleading & divisive. This project is crucial for Zambia's energy deficit & regional cooperation with Zimbabwe, generating 2,400 megawatts!
01/01/2026
We as GODAZA would like to urge Zambia to observe Uganda's 2026 elections and learn from their electoral processes to strengthen our own democratic journey. With Zambia's tripartite elections looming, let's seize this opportunity to ensure our 2026 polls are free, fair, and peaceful, and take a leadership role in African politics and economic growth.
