Fellow citizens,
through the Nelly Mutti Foundation, I had the honour of recognising and awarding six outstanding law graduates drawn from the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Mulungushi University, and the University of Lusaka.

As I presented medals and certificates of recognition, I encouraged these bright young minds to remain focused and steadfast in their journey. I urged them to use their knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution to our nation and to always pursue excellence in the legal profession.

Our country needs principled, dedicated and courageous legal practitioners, and I am confident that these graduates will rise to that call.

Fellow Citizens,

Today, I had the pleasure of hosting Members of the Zambia Women Parliamentarians Caucus (ZWPC) for a Meet and Greet Breakfast at Parliament Buildings as we commemorate Women’s Month.

March remains a significant moment for reflection and action as we continue to advance the ideals of International Women’s Day under the theme “Rights. Equality. Empowerment. For ALL Women and Girls.”

This is a call for us, as leaders, to move beyond commitment and take deliberate steps toward ensuring equal opportunities for women in all spheres of society.

While women in Zambia continue to play a critical role in governance and national development, their representation in Parliament remains low. This reminds us that there is still more work to be done to address the barriers that limit women’s full participation in leadership.

That is why the Constitution amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 was critical to strengthen inclusive representation by creating, for the first time in Zambia, pathways for more women to be elected to Parliament.

Additionally, the enacted Constitution provides an opportunity to enhance the representation of youth and other marginalised groups.

Practical steps to support a more enabling environment have also been undertaken, including the establishment of a Committee on Women Parliamentarians and the development of a crèche facility within Parliament to support Members of Parliament and staff.

As we approach the 2026 General Elections, I encourage women across the country to actively participate in leadership and governance. Your voice matters, your contribution is vital and your leadership is needed.

Together, let us continue to uplift one another, inspire the next generation and work towards a more inclusive and representative Zambia.

Today, I had the honour and privilege of officially opening the two day Women’s Participation in Politics Conference at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre which is being held under the theme:

“Advancing Women’s Leadership: Strengthening Inclusive Democracy and Equal Representation in Zambia.”

The conference which has been convened by the Gender Division, Cabinet Office, provides an important platform for reflection, dialogue and decisive action towards building a more inclusive and representative democracy.

Democracy cannot be fully inclusive when half of our population remains underrepresented in decision-making spaces. Women are leaders in families, communities, business, churches and civil society.

Their contribution to governance is not optional, it is essential. Inclusive democracy is not a favour extended to women, it is a constitutional and moral obligation.

As Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to strengthening institutional frameworks that support Women Members of Parliament and to promoting greater participation of women at all levels of governance.

I further encouraged young women across Zambia to view Parliament not as a distant institution, but as a space where their voices belong.

Together, we can advance women’s leadership.
Together, we can strengthen inclusive democracy.

Fellow citizens,

Today, through the Nelly Mutti Foundation, I had the privilege of donating bicycles, foodstuffs, and clothes to vulnerable members of the community in Luangeni Constituency.

This donation was made in my capacity as Founder of the Nelly Mutti Foundation, driven by a deep commitment to uplifting the vulnerable and improving livelihoods.

The bicycles will enhance mobility and productivity, while the foodstuffs and clothing will provide much-needed support to families in need.

I remain committed to serving our people with compassion and to working together to build stronger, caring, and more resilient communities.

Earlier in the morning, I was highly privileged to attended the Service for the Departed conducted by District Apostle Kabuba Soko at the New Apostolic Church, Katete Central Congregation, where the text word was taken from John 11:43—a moment of deep reflection and spiritual encouragement.

Fellow citizens,

I was honoured to attend the 2026 Ncwala Ceremony, a profound celebration of culture, heritage, and identity. The ceremony was graced by the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema and His Royal Highness King Mpezeni IV, whose presence as Paramount Chief of the Ngoni people powerfully affirmed the enduring role of traditional leadership in preserving our cultural heritage.

Held under the theme “Reconnecting abaNgoni and Promoting National Unity and Love,” the Ncwala Ceremony reminded us that culture transcends borders and generations, uniting the Ngoni people across the region and strengthening the fabric of our nation.

I reaffirm my commitment to supporting the preservation of our rich cultural traditions and to promoting unity, peace, and mutual respect among all Zambians.

Culture unites us. Unity strengthens us and when we move in unity, Zambia moves forward together.

Fellow citizens,
I had the honour of presiding over the Torch Relay of Peace at the National Assembly of Zambia as it marked 130 years of the Modern Olympic Games.

The Olympic Flame symbolizes peace, unity and peaceful co-existence, values that strongly resonate with our democracy. I reflected on Zambia’s proud Olympic legacy and paid tribute to our athletes, including the late Keith Mwila and Samuel Matete, whose achievements continue to inspire future generations.

As the world celebrates the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, I reaffirmed the importance of the Olympic Truce and the global call for peace, echoing President Hakainde Hichilema’s message that instability anywhere is instability everywhere.

The Olympic spirit also reminds us of our duty to nurture young people through sport and education, and to protect the environment for generations to come.

May the Light of the Olympic Flame continue to be a Light of Hope, Peace and Understanding for Zambia and the world at large.
