Congratulations to for winning the Ice Hockey World Championship yesterday 🏆
There’s a saying nowadays when Finns win something: “Torille!” It reflects the spontaneous urge to head to the nearest market square to celebrate. The most famous one is located in Helsinki, where there’s a fountain in the middle that nowadays needs to be covered, because people will jump in and swim in it!
We couldn’t resist joining the celebrations, so naturally, our Ambassador headed straight for our Embassy fountain!

Last week, the 4th LDC (Least Developed Countries) Future Forum was held in Helsinki, Finland. The Forum brought together diverse community of LDC policymakers, researchers, youth leaders, civil society and private sector actors.
Zambian delegation participated in the LDC Future Forum, engaging in high-level discussions on the future of skills and labour markets. Ms. Prudence Kaoma, Permanent Secretary for Planning and Administration, contributed as a panelist in a session on Bridging the Skills Gap, co-chaired by Zambia’s Permanent Representative Chola Milambo and Finland’s State Secretary Elina Kalkku.
The delegation also joined a fireside chat on building vibrant youth innovation ecosystems, highlighting the importance of empowering young people for the future.
During their visit, the group explored Finland’s education system through site visits to Kuninkaantie Upper Secondary School and Omnia Vocational College. At Omnia, CEO of Omnia Education Partnerships, Mervi Jansson, presented Finland’s approach to education and vocational training, followed by a tour of the facilities.
The visit provided valuable insights into how education systems can better respond to future skills needs and strengthen youth opportunities.

Zambia has been named the largest programme country for the Finnish Trade Union Solidarity Centre (SASK) in Africa under a new €10 million initiative aimed at strengthening workers’ rights, expanding decent work, and deepening disability inclusion across 14 countries.
The SASK 2026–2029 Programme was officially launched on Monday, 20 April 2026, at Mikango Hotel in Lusaka by the Embassy of Finland in Zambia.
The four-year programme will channel support into trade union capacity building, social dialogue, and inclusive employment, with 26 projects planned across the 14 target countries.
Speaking at the launch, Embassy Advisor Elizabeth Ndhlovu said Zambia’s portfolio will prioritize skills training, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship support for persons with disabilities.
“This initiative reflects Finland’s long-standing commitment to equality, human rights, and inclusive development,” Ndhlovu said. “By investing in unions and disability inclusion, we are investing in sustainable, fair growth.”
