The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) is Zambia’s premier economic development Agency with a multifaceted mandate of promoting and facilitating trade, investment and enterprise development in the country. The Agency is also responsible for building and enhancing the country’s investment profile for increased capital inflows, capital formation, employment creation and growth of the Medium Small and Micro Enterprise (MSME) Sector. It became operational in 2007, after the amalgamation of five statutory bodies namely; Zambia Investment Centre, Zambia Privatization Agency, Export Board of Zambia , Small Enterprise Development Board and the Zambia Export Processing Zones Authority. ZDA, TFO Canada Hold Market Research Validation Workshop

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) of Canada recently held a Market Research Validation Workshop under the project Trade for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth (TRISEG).

The four-year project, which runs from 2026 to 2030, is set to be implemented by ZDA with funding from TFO Canada and is aimed at strengthening the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those owned and led by women, youth and underrepresented groups in Zambia’s processed foods sector, to access Canadian and regional markets.

Speaking during a workshop in a speech read on her behalf by Director Human Resources and Administration Agelina Chanda, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Trade Lillian Bwalya said Government had reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Zambia’s trade and investment agenda through initiatives aimed at improving the export readiness and international competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

404 Fund Seekers, 52 Funders Engage on the Zambia Investment Deal Room
The Zambia Investment Deal Room (ZIDR) continues to gain traction, with 404 Fund Seekers and 52 Funders now registered on the digital investment matchmaking platform. Of the projects submitted, 54 are investment-ready, 19 are already in talks with potential financiers, and three have achieved partial financial close.

The figures point to increased activity on the platform, which was established to connect Zambian businesses and project developers seeking financing with local and international investors.

Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Director General Albert Halwampa said the growing participation demonstrates ZIDR’s potential to improve access to finance and strengthen Zambia’s investment ecosystem.

An initiative of President Hakainde Hichilema, ZIDR provides a centralized marketplace where entrepreneurs, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), project developers, and businesses can seek equity or debt financing from a wide range of potential investors.

“ZIDR was established to accelerate financial close and project implementation by reducing the transaction costs associated with identifying credible, investment-ready projects and suitable financiers,” said Mr. Halwampa.

Through technology, the platform provides greater visibility for bankable projects, improves transparency, and reduces the time and cost associated with sourcing investment partners.

EnerSynk PPA Signals Fresh Private Investment in Zambia’s Energy Sector

Zambia has taken another step toward attracting private investment in the energy sector following the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between EnerSynk Group and ZESCO Limited. The project is expected to channel 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity onto the national grid.

Speaking recently at the signing ceremony, Zambia Development Agency Director General Albert Halwampa said the agreement demonstrates the potential for private-sector participation to strengthen the country’s power supply and support economic development.

Mr. Halwampa said reliable and affordable electricity is critical to Zambia’s development ambitions, particularly for industrialization, mining, agriculture, job creation, and economic diversification.

“Energy underpins industrialization, mining, agriculture, job creation, and economic diversification,” Mr. Halwampa said.

He said Zambia could not achieve its national development targets at the desired scale and pace without sufficient, reliable electricity.

Mr. Halwampa added that the PPA signing was an important step toward increasing power generation capacity and demonstrating what could be achieved when the country creates an enabling environment for private investment.

ZDA Signs MoU with Royal Group of Companies to Advance Multi-Sector Investment Opportunities in Zambia

The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Group of Companies (RGC), led by Royal Investment Bureau, LLC, to establish a framework for cooperation in identifying, developing and implementing mutually beneficial investment and development opportunities in Zambia.

The MoU brings together ZDA, the country’s economic development agency mandated to promote and facilitate trade, investment and business development, and RGC, an investment group in the United Arab Emirates with a globally diversified investment footprint across emerging and developed markets.

The ZDA Director General, Albert Halwampa, and Royal Group of Companies Group Chairman Saud Ali Bin Jerais AI Aleeli signed the MoU during the Zambia-UAE Business Forum in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on the sidelines of President Hakainde Hichilema's visit to the country.

The partnership is aimed at facilitating the identification and promotion of investment opportunities, strengthening cooperation in exploring potential investments, sharing relevant investment information, and facilitating engagement between RGC and relevant Government institutions and stakeholders.
