ZAMBIA SCOOPS SECOND POSITION AT REGIONAL IP COMPETITION

Zambia has secured a second top slot in the 2026 Regional Intellectual Property (IP) School Club Competition which was held today in the Zimbabwean capital Harare.

The competition organised by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization - ARIPO saw Zambia compete against schools from Liberia, Tanzania, Ghana, Gambia, and Rwanda.

Zambia was represented by Lumai Fumbelo President of the David Kaunda National STEM Secondary School IP School Club which won the national competition in March this year. Lumai was accompanied at the competition by Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) Examiner Patents and Designs Palidje Nzima and DK IP School Club Matron Georigette Katolo Lupwishi.

Maretha International Preparatory High School of Liberia scooped first position while St. Therese's Upper Basic School of Gambia came out third.

DK PARTICIPATES IN REGIONAL IP COMPETITION IN HARARE

We wish David Kaunda National STEM Secondary School all the best as they battle for a top slot in the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization - ARIPO Regional Intellectual Property (IP) School Club Competition in Harare, Zimbabwe.

DK is competing with Liberia, Tanzania, Ghana, Gambia and Rwanda.

DK emerged Zambia’s representative in the regional competition after beating four other schools in Lusaka.

The school is being represented by its IP School Club President Lumai Fumbelo.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO INVOICING AND PAYMENT PROCEDURES

Kindly note that the Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) will, from Monday, 1st June 2026, no longer generate invoices through the cashier’s office for walk-in clients.

All invoices will now be automatically generated at the point of case creation.

Clients will no longer be making payments through the cashier’s office, but directly through Zampay using the available online payment options.

This development is part of PACRA’s ongoing modernization and system enhancement initiatives.

PACRA CEO TAKES PART IN CONTINENTAL SYMPOSIUM ON PROTECTION OF NEW PLANT VARIETIES.

Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) Registrar and CEO Mr. Benson Mpalo is among various stakeholders from across the continent who have gathered in Maseru, Lesotho for a Symposium on the Protection of New Varieties of Plants.

The event from taking place from 20–21 May 2026, is being held under the theme “Nurturing Agricultural Innovation: Advancing the Protection of New Plant Varieties for Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in Africa.”

Mr. Mpalo is among the panelists for discussions under the topic “The Role of Plant Variety Protection (PVP) System in Advancing Sustainable Agricultural Development, Food Security and Climate Change.

The Symposium seeks to raise awareness on the role of Plant Variety Protection (PVP) in supporting agricultural development across the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization - ARIPO Region and beyond.

The event brings together policymakers, legal and IP experts, plant breeders, seed companies, farmers and other key stakeholders to discuss the ratification and implementation of the Arusha Protocol, its alignment with national laws, and its relationship with the UPOV Convention.

It also provides a platform for sharing experiences and developing practical recommendations to strengthen PVP systems in Africa.

The event has been organised by ARIPO in collaboration with the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho through the Registrar General’s Office, the Ministry of Law and Constitutional Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition.

PACRA JOINS IN WORLD METROLOGY DAY COMMEMORATIONS

The Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) this morning joined the Zambia Metrology Agency and various stakeholders to commemorate the 2026 World Metrology Day held under the global theme: “Metrology: Building Trust in Policymaking.”

The event brought together senior government officials, international partners, regulators, industry players, and development partners to highlight the critical role of metrology in national development.

Patents And Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) Senior Registration Officer Mwewa Makumba and Assistant Examiner Evelyn Chikotola were on hand to help clients and visitors with key information about PACRA.

Among the high-level visitors that the two beautiful and energetic ladies attended to are Director of Public Prosecution Mr. Gilbert Phiri and President Hakainde Hichilema’s Investment Advisor Mr. Jito Kayumba.
