The National Food Laboratory is proud to join the nation and the global community in commemorating World Food Safety Day 2026 under the theme:
โFrom burden to solutions, Safe food everywhere.โ
As part of the Ministry of Health, we recognize that food safety is a shared responsibility and a cornerstone of public health. Safe food not only protects communities from foodborne diseases but also contributes to improved nutrition, stronger economies, and healthier lives.
We are delighted to participate in the World Food Safety Day Aerobics Session at Pinnacle Mall, an initiative that highlights the important connection between healthy lifestyles, active communities, and safe food practices. Through awareness, collaboration, and scientific excellence, we remain committed to ensuring that the food consumed by Zambians is safe, wholesome, and of high quality.
We encourage everyone to join us in promoting food safety at every stage of the food chain from production and processing to preparation and consumption.
Together, let us move from burden to solutions and make safe food accessible everywhere.

Transforming the National Food Laboratory into a modern Laboratory, is more than an infrastructure upgradeโit is a strategic investment in the nationโs public health, food safety, and economic resilience. This transformation reflects Zambiaโs commitment to integrating advanced technologies, strengthening compliance with international standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, and building a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering accurate, reliable, and timely results.
By modernizing the laboratory, Zambia enhances its capacity to monitor food quality, safeguard consumers, and support both local industries and export markets. It also strengthens the countryโs ability to respond to emerging food safety challenges and reinforces confidence in regulatory systems. Ultimately, this transformation is a bold step toward positioning Zambia as a leader in food safety and laboratory excellence within the region.

ZNPHI commences Refurbishment of National Food Laboratory at the University Teaching Hospital to upgrade it to Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) status.
The site was officially handed over to the contractor in December 2025, and the refurbishment, along with construction of laboratory and office extensions, is expected to run for eight months.
The project is implemented under the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Regional Investment Financing Project (ACDCP) through ZNPHI and the Ministry of Health.
