HON. SYAKALIMA ADDRESSES TEACHERS IN CHIPATA DISTRICT.
Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima has addressed Teachers in Chipata District with a call to them to continue offering qualify Education service to the Learners.
The Honourable Minister said the performance of all the Provinces in the 2021 Examinations, was a reflection of how well they implemented various learning interventions during school closures.
Hon. Syakalima said he was hopeful that the Eastern Province would do better this year in the National Grade 7 and 9 Examinations.
Eastern Province has ranked 10th position at both Grade 7 and 9 in the 2021 National Examinations compared to previous years when they performed better.
Mr. Syakalima has implored the teachers to continue working hard despite this ranking.

HON. SYAKALIMA MONITORS ZEEP SCHOOLS IN MUCHINGA.
Minister of Education Hon. Douglas Syakalima MP has toured various districts of Muchinga Province to check on the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP) schools.
The Minister is happy that the projects are on course and many schools have started operating partially.
He however, expressed sadness that some schools still needed to speed up the works as the targets had not been met.
The Hon. Minister also toured Paul Mushindo University in Chinsali District to check on the stalled works.
Mr. Syakalima wondered why the University had not been completed despite commencing several years ago.The Honourable Minister has promised the Provincial Education Officer for Muchinga Province Dr. Allan kaoma, that he would ensure that money is found for construction works to resume.
The Education Minister echoed that the completion of works at the University would motivate students to access Tertiary Education from within the Province.
And Provincial Education Officer Dr. Allan Kaoma thanked the Minister for inspecting various projects in the province. He assured the Minister that they would continue to uplift the sector as a Province.

TEACHING IS A CALLING, NOT A SECOND BEST PROFESSION.
Hon. Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima MP has called on Teachers to bring back glory to the Teaching profession.
The Minister was speaking when he officiated at the 8th Graduation Ceremony of the Kwame Nkrumah University in Kabwe.
Mr. Syakalima has told the gathering that teaching should not be looked at as a second best profession but one that people should cherish and be proud of.
"if you can do anything, then do Teaching" said Minister.
Hon. Syakalima has also called on Universities to be innovative in Teaching especially in the COVID 19 era. He told them to embrace technology so that they were not lagging behind.
And Kwame Nkrumah University Vice Chancellor Professor. Alfred Mwanza said the University was graduating 1,485 undergraduate candidates of which 924 were female while 561 were males. Of the total number, 4 obtained distinctions, 407 merits, 983 credits and 91 passes. Meanwhile, the University has also graduated 45 master candidates and 25 postgraduates.
The Vice Chancellor added that in order for them to transform their challenges into innovation,the University had introduced ICT and entrepreneurship in all their programmes.

PS KAMOKO HANDS OVER 1,300 BICYCLES IN MUMBWA DISTRICT.
The Permanent Secretary in charge of Technical Services Mr. Joe Kamoko has handed over 1,300 bicycles to deserving recipients under the tutelage of the World Bicycle Relief(WBR) Zambia.
The handover ceremony took place in Nalusanga ward of Mumbwa district today.
And WBR Zambia Country Director Mr. Moonga indicated that the Non- governmental organisation focuses on mobilising bicycles for use in various communities in order to improve livelihoods of people especially women and girls.
He added that they had been implementing a program with the Ministry of Education called Bicycle Education Empowerment Program (BEEP) from 2016 were a total of 17,000 bicycles have been given to pupils to easy their mobility.
And in receiving the Bicycles, Mr. Kamoko thanked the organisation for extending the BEEP program to other sectors under a more inclusive program called Mobilised communities to Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Tourism.
The Permanent Secretary assured the NGO that Government would continue to support and lobby for duty free importation of Bicycles for the benefit of the communities.
The 1,300 Bicycles were given to the people of Chibolyo and Nalusanga wards.

HON. SYAKALIMA AND HON. MASEBO ATTEND THE ESA CONFERENCE.
Minister of Education Hon. Douglas M. Syakalima MP has attended the High level Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) Ministerial Commitment meeting on Education, Health and Well-being
for Adolescents and Young People.
The meeting was also attended by the Health Minister Hon. Sylvia Masebo MP at Taj. Pamodzi Hotel today.
The two Ministers have reaffirmed Zambia's commitment to accelerate investment aimed at supporting Adolescents and young people as well as facilitate access to to Adolescents and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Rights Services.
Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima said they were alot of issues affecting Adolescents and Young people such as Child Marriage,Teenage Pregnancy, Gender Based Violence, HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
And his Health Counterpart Slyvia Masebo said it is hoped that the ESA Commitment would accelerate the country's efforts to end new HIV infections, prevent early and unintended pregnancies, help keep the girls in school for longer and eliminate norms and harmful practices among adolescents and young people by 2030.
The Sexuality Education and sexual reproductive health services ESA Commitment meeting was attend by the 21 member states within the African Continent.

HON. SYAKALIMA COMMISSIONS RACECOURSE AND LUFWANYAMA PRIMARY SCHOOLS.
During his tour of the Copperbelt, the Honourable Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima has officially commissioned and received the newly constructed buildings at Racecourse Primary School in Kitwe and Lufwanyama Primary School in Lufwanyama districts.
The two projects which have been handed over to Government by the Copperbelt Development Foundation Limited (CDFL),are valued at K 6,226,628.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, CDFL Board chairperson Kennedy Musonda said the organisation was committed to supporting the improvement of Education infrastructure on the Copperbelt and Central Provinces.
In his speech, Hon. Syakalima indicated that Government was fully aware of the infrastructure challenges in many schools. He echoed that Public Private Partnership was cardinal to improving the Education sector and attaining the Sustainable Development Goal - SDG number 4 on Education.
The Honourable Minister received among other things 1x4 classroom block, 2 staff rooms, 2 libraries, staff houses, 40 computers and fully equipped science labs.

MINISTER OF EDUCATION MEETS MANAGEMENT AT MUKUBA UNIVERSITY- KITWE.
The Minister of Education Hon. Douglas Syakalima MP has met Management at Mukuba University in Kitwe to appreciate the successes and challenges that the University is experiencing.
Speaking at the same meeting, Mukuba University Vice Chancellor Professor Frank Tailoka said the institution had several challenges that had affected the enrollment of students in the campus such as a bad road network.
Professor Tailoka also appealed to the Minister through the Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board (HELSB) to consider putting more students on the Bursary scheme.
In response, the Honourable Minister acknowledged that the University was still in it's infancy and much still needed to be put in place to be able to attract many students.
Mr. Syakalima also toured the University to check on infrastructure.

HON. SYAKALIMA ADDRESSES TEACHERS IN MPIKA DISTRICT, MUCHINGA PROVINCE.
Minister of Education Honourable Douglas Syakalima has addressed Teachers, Headteachers and District Education Board Secretaries in Mpika district.
The Minister who was in the company of the Provincial Education Officer Dr. Allan Kaoma, encouraged Teachers to teach to the best of their ability. He assured them that they would not be intimidated during their ex*****on of duty under the New Dawn administration.
Hon. Syakalima added that Teaching was an admirable profession long ago but this is no longer the case now. He has promised to bring back glory to the teaching profession .
The Honourable Minister has thanked the Teachers for their sacrifice during the COVID - 19 pandemic.
In addition, Hon. Syakalima has advised the nine (9) DEBS who attended the meeting from other districts within the Province, to depoliticise the Education sector. He implored them to be leaders who would motivate the Teachers in their various districts.
Meanwhile,the Minister also visited Mikuba Day Secondary, a ZEEP school in Kanchibiya District to check on the progress.He was however disappointed that the works at school had delayed compared to other schools within the District.
And Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has thanked the Minister for visiting his constituency to check on Educational projects.The MP however lamented that there was need to build a Boarding School in the area to curb early marriages and unwanted pregnancies.
