Government welcomes DP World for partnership

LUSAKA, Zambia 🇿🇲, Monday, February 10, 2025 - Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Eng. Counsel MUSEBA FRANK TAYALI, MP has said that Zambia is eager to work with the Dubai Port (DP) World to enhance transport and logistics efficiency in the sector.

Speaking when he met the organisation’s Executive Vice President in-charge of International Project Mr. SUHAIL ALBANA who led a five-member delegation to his office this morning, the Minister said Zambia being land-linked relies heavily on efficient regional port infrastructure and systems to facilitate trade.

He said Government has prioritised the development of dry ports in strategic locations across the region and secured land in strategic ports including Walvis Bay in Namibia, Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, and Lobito in Angola.

Hon. Tayali said given DP World’s vast experience in managing ports and logistics corridors he would like the Ministry to explore areas of collaboration to ensure successful operationalisation of the available port.

And Mr. ALBANA said the organisation would like to share with Zambia how best to improve efficiency and the coast effectiveness of sector to sector logistics and that DP World only needs Zambia’s support.

He said DP World does not move into countries they work with to dictate but to support through collaboration.

Meanwhile, DP World Chief Executive Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa MOHAMED AKOOJEE said the firm has a big plan for growth in terms of fleet tracking and would like to make Zambia they key hub to monitor logistics.

Later, Mr. Albana paid a courtesy call on Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTEANE.

He explained DP World’s interest in building capacity in Zambia’s logistics sector.

And Dr. MUSOKOTWANE highlighted the importance of capacitating the country’s logistics sector in view of increased investment in the mining sector.

He further cited the agriculture sector as another area that can benefit from an improved transport and logistics system.

DP World is a multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It specialises in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services and free trade zones.
