STAKEHOLDERS AT CHIKUNI MISSION HAVE CALLED FOR THE PRESERVATION OF CULTURE AND TRADITIONS.

Chikuni Mission Parish Priest Father Chobe Mambo has called on African Christians to integrate the Gospel with local culture.

He was speaking to Rusangu University Radio at the Chikuni Mukazyubo Kalinda Cultural Institute as he cited the Diocese of Monze’s efforts in promoting inculturation.

Meanwhile, Chikuni Mukazyubo Kalinda Cultural Institute Coordinator Mable Jombe has stressed the importance of preserving Tonga culture and traditions through literature, recording and archiving.

The Rusangu University Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Ignicious Ncube, who was also present at the Chikuni Mukazyubo kalinda cultural institute alongside the Rusangu university journalism students, says educational trips such as the visit to the institute help students connect classroom knowledge with practical experiences.

The students also learnt about traditional dance, food preparation, family values, drumming and other aspects of Tonga culture.

Mulenga Chitupila , a Student , has encouraged fellow students to participate in such activities and appreciate the importance of preserving culture and traditions for future generations.

Additionally, Drummer Wisdom Mainza and dancer Vanessa Michelo shared how traditional arts have also created opportunities to teach others and support education.

The Chikuni Mukazyubo Kalinda Cultural Institute was established in 1990 by Father Frank Wefa, an Irish priest, with the aim of contributing to the preservation and promotion of Tonga culture and traditions.
